although i see 2-3 movies a year in theatres, i will only go with someone else. I will never go by myself. Hell, at Wedding Crashers (it was sold out), i felt weird sitting next to a stranger (i went w/3 guys -- only single seats randomly dispersed around the theatre).

If I can get someone else to go with me, I will, but I don't have any problem seeing a movie by myself. What does it matter? You're not interacting with anyone. You're sitting there watching something on-screen.
If I go it alone or tag along with someone else, I do prefer the theater to be as empty as possible.

Depends...if a Fri/Sat night...I prefer to go with a friend(s). However, if I catch a weekend matinee while out running errands or a weeknight showing, I actually prefer to go alone.

I usually go every week to a movie with my wife. I'll go alone maybe once every couple of years, but usually if I can't sucker her into seeing it I'll just wait for the DVD.

I have absolutely no problem going by myself, as I discovered this summer when I was working nights, but I also like going w/ other people so that I can talk about the film afterwards.

I like to go with some one, but the theater can be completely empty and we would be happy. Some times, when there is a major chick-flick and a major action pic on at the same time, we go our separate ways...

I usually go with other people, and prefer to do so, but I don't have a problem going by myself either when I want to see something and can't find someone who's free to go/wants to go at that time.
My schedule is pretty tight, and I rarely make it to the theaters lately, so if there's something I want to see and I have a time I can make it, I"m going to go regardless of whether I can find someone to accompany me.
I generally go with the g/f, but she's even busier than me right now.

I don't mind going by myself, but prefer going with someone else. I'm not 17 anymore so I don't really care how teenagers selling popcorn or other moviegoers view me.
Unless it's an "event" movie, I try not to go on Friday or Saturday nights, as the crowds can be a pain in the ass. Seeing a movie with friends in a very packed theatre is an awesome experience though. I was holding a bunch of seats one time and I started talking to the retiree next to me. Her and her friends from the community center all went out to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. She said she hadn't gone to the movies in years. That sort of gave me the idea that the movie was going to be huge.

Usually I go with other people. However, I have no problem going alone and often do if I'm not doing anything on a Saturday afternoon. I'll just decide spur of the moment to catch a flick and not want to work around girlfriend's/friends' schedules to do so.

Why do so many of you feel the need to be with somebody else when going to a movie? You might get 5 minutes of conversation in before the movie starts if you show up early, but otherwise you are sitting there watching a giant picture in a dark room. There isn't any social interaction involved, or at least there shouldn't be.
