I've asked myself this question many times. I cringe every time the movie teasers come on TV. I'll probably end up watching it just to see what the hype is.
However I do have to mention that SBC is hot
(when he looks like his normal self, such as in Talladega Nights: TBORB)

For me I find the actual character very funny, usually moreso than the unknowing participants.
Cohen is just great at staying in character and adapting to a situation so well.
