Looks like Nolan's work is done on Superman: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/188...uperman-reboot
I understand that he's busy w/ the next Batman movie, but this doesn't seem like very good news. |

'Thomas indicated that Nolan and David Goyer just had an idea they couldn't believe wasn't being explored by Warner Bros. so "they brought it to an appropriate screenplay and it's now Snyder's picture".' What does that mean? |

Snyder has instead enlisted Hans Zimmer to score his top-down reinvention of the DC Comics superhero. Zimmer let the cat out of the bag at a DVD release party for INCEPTION this week, and discussed the challenge of following up Williams's unforgettable score with NBC San Diego's Scott Huver... “It's a hard one,” mused Zimmer, “but I followed one of the most iconic things on 'Batman' with Chris as well, and it's the same thing. You are allowed to reinvent, but you have to try to be as good or at least as iconic and it has to resonate and it has to become a part of the zeitgeist. That's the job. On 'Gladiator' I remember people always talking about 'Spartacus' and I kept telling them, 'When you saw "Spartacus" and how it affected it you, that's how I want a modern audience to be affected by what we do now.' So I think ultimately you're supposed to reinvent.” |

If they don't use a Lex Luthor real-estate scheme, it just won't be a Superman movie to me.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I've seen Nolan nerds speculate that he could end up running Warner Bros. and suggesting that Warner Bros. would basically give him a blank check for whatever bland pretentious idea he came up with so it's pretty funny to see that obviously isn't the case.
I have more faith in Warner Bros. than Nolan so I can only hope that someone there actually realized how completely wrong he was for Superman. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I'm actually glad they're not using William's theme. Though I love it (I have the 2-disc score album and listen to it all the time) but this movie needs its own identity.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Yeah I don't see a need for William's theme.

Nolan isn't going to "run" WB any more than Kubrick did when he was with them. WB is known for giving a lot of creative freedom to its filmmakers, and in this case, used Nolan to give Superman a direction.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Although I do find several of his scores memorable, I think Hans Zimmer is know more for his style than his particular cues. That said, although likely impractical for this particular project, I'm hoping for something as fun as this:

Not using Elfman's Batman themes was unthinkable to me at first... but it turned out fine. |

Backdraft, Crimson Tide, Thin Red Line, Batman Begins off the top of my head... No, he doesn't have that classical music sound (like John Williams), so it will take some getting used to, but that doesn't mean it's not iconic.

I agree. The score Zimmer and Gregson-Williams did for BB and TDK fit Nolan's version the best as Elfman's themes (certain ones anyway) would've been so far out of place.
Although I think Rupert Gregson-Williams (brother of Harry Gregson-Williams) may have contributed some additional cues to the BB score. |
