But I guess people can always watch Iron Man 2 again, which lacked any inspiring, touching, or thrilling moments, IMO.

Bryan, please don't get so defensive!

I agree with that, except the movie was still a fantastic 120-130min film trapped in an above average 154min film.

I'll give you the bank robbery scene. That was pretty neat. I forgot it. We'll say that makes up, what... a whole extra 1% (being generous)? So the movie is 6% cool and 94% mediocre then.

The "Metropolis Mayhem" was just clunky, IMO, and it didn't add anything that wasn't done better in one of the previous Superman movies.

And I'm assuming you're being facetious about the "thrilling lifting-of-the-boat rescue" and "way cool recharging" stuff. Really?

Let's also not forget that the bank robbery scene was added after the fact to punch up the action. It wasn't even going to be in there originally.

Or skipping out on the hospital bills and making the tax payers responsible for the expenses for the emergency care and multi-day stay. What an assholish thing to do.

Of course, in defense of Superman, Batman isn't any better. How much in property damage did he cause in Batman Begins?

So, I thought the movie was mostly boring and creepy (Stalker Supes). That scene was a minor highlight among the few decent scenes it contained, so without it the film would have had even less eye candy.

But, of course, I know you disagree so it's a moot point.

Everyone keeps minimizing the action scenes, but talking up the "stalker" aspect. Really now, how much screen time did the "stalking" actually take up?

1 minute is too long.

Superman is supposed to be the hero, not some moody all powerful emo douchebag.

1. That bank robbery was ok. Who the fuck uses a gun like that for a bank robbery? It was predictable.

2. The Metropolis stuff was boring. He saves the place all the time. Nothing new.

3. The ONLY moment I enjoyed that scene was when you see supes literally stand on it and lift it for that short bit. Mostly cuz the shot zooms out and you see him lifting it out. That and the theme playing...was good. The rest of that scene is eh.

4. I thought the recharge scene was alright. The music playing during that moment was too much. Slamming into the ocean floor and what not? Reminds me too much for Superman 1.

5. Lifting New Krypton and THEN faling to earth? Kind of predictable and boring.

6. The score? it's a good score...except...we've all heard that score sooo much so...that...kind of only makes some of those boring moments more enjoyable. That boat rescue. The theme saves that scene. Without the music it'd be more boring.

Hell...that airplane rescue is entertaining for sure. The landing it in a Baseball field and people cheering? Too corny for me.

Also...Bosworth was "serviceable" as Lane. She looked too young and petite for Lois Lane. Everyone else was cast fine. Superkid...the idea was horrible.

Overexaggerated, once again. But anyway, do you think we're going to get something better with this new reboot?

Damage that Bruce Wayne paid for.

Something tells me we won't get that, or Superkid. So it's already in the black for me.

Did he pay for it directly? Maybe I missed it, but did he make a donation or something?

Solid Snake 10-20-10 08:09 PM

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

Wait? When did Wayne pay for anything? Wouldn't he not want to have his public identity involved at all with anything he did as Batman?

Supermallet 10-20-10 08:16 PM

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

I seem to recall some line about Wayne paying for stuff, but even if it's not in there, most of the damage in Begins was to Wayne Corp's HQ, so it would make sense he'd pay for it (or have the insurance take care of it).

I was primarily talking about the chase scene were he crushed several cop cars (in one case endangering the two cops inside), crashed through a concrete barrier on a freeway. Stuff like that would come out of the city budget...

I'm not at my place to verify that but can we get a confirm on that from you fellow DVDtalkers? cuz for some reason if I missed that I feel stupid.

I just want to see something NEW with Superman... Christ, I feel like all six of the Superman theatrical movies are the same... and they all seem to be paced at 1/2 speed.

Solid Snake 10-20-10 09:31 PM

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

1 and 2 were well paced. 3 and 4 were messes. Returns was so so fucking slow.

The problem with 2 is...that it's uneven in quality. And it shows cuz Donner filmed part of it while Lester took that footage and used it while also reshooting some moments, adding his stuff in there as well.

lopper 10-20-10 09:33 PM

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

I've got no problem with them doing a reboot with Snyder, but the last thing I want is a movie with Superman not being Superman. This whole wandering the globe horseshit sounds like a colossal waste of my time.
