At this point, outside of Uwe Boll, wouldn't any director be better than no director?

Interesting... I wonder if Nolan can harness Snyder's power to make this awesome. He def needs to be reigned in on this one.

I am. I'd like to see a Superman movie with a visual style that doesn't try and emulate the boring Richard Donner.

Zack Snyder eh? I'm a little surprised WB went with him, considering how he handled the so-so Watchmen for them.

I can't wait to see how he'll fit a slo-fas-slo-mo beheading into this. We used to joke at the theatre about how he'd get away with doing it in the Owl movie. And then he did have a slo-fas-slo-mo beheading in it, which surprised/impressed/saddened me.

It's easy to criticize Snyder for his style-over-substance filmmaking, of course, but look at the bright side - the inevitable opening montage of baby Superman crashing on Earth, growing up, learning powers, moving to Metropolis, meeting Lois and debuting as a superhero will be absolutely stunning, I'm sure.

does this mean we will finally get the full frontal shot that Donner so longed for?

Yeah, i'm ok with Snyder as long as his style is toned down a bit. I don't think the visual style of 300/Watchmen/Sucker Punch will work with Superman.

 on Snyder. Still, I'll see the movie.

Yep. Not a well-thought out move on Warner's part. Not really looking forward to this at all.

Meh, I'm not a fan 300 but Watchmen actually grew on me quite a bit. I'm more interested in what this supposed "new take" on Superman that nobody has ever seen before is than who the director is.

Hollywood Reporter is claiming that General Zod will be the villian;

Goyer is writing the script, which is rumored to have, like "Superman Returns," a Richard Donner connection. In this movie's case, it's a villain connection: General Zod.

I don't how a guy who directed watchmen, can possibly take Superman serious. I'll trust Nolan more on this and remain hopeful.

Zod, that plummets my interest.

Wow, finally! A Superman movie that will actually be entertaining. This is the best movie news in a while. If Zod is the villain, that would be better than Luthor....Darkseid would be better though...

There's a good chance that he would use a hot actress for Lois Lane as well, although I wouldn't be surprised if he gave it to Malin Akerman who is very Lois Lane-ish...

Carla Gugino would be a great new Ursa if he is actually going to remake Superman 2.

Bleh. 5 "modern" Superman movies and we still have to use the same villains.

Given Luthor has been done to death (I assume he'll be a background figure in this one), I don't mind using Zod and that move peaks my interest (of course Nolan's involvement even on a consulting level helped a bunch).

Ditto. In terms of "style over substance" he's worse than Michael Bay IMHO.

agreed. although doing a brainiac or darkseid character justice in the movies might be tough.

I'm sure Nolan won't let Snyder do the all the same stuff that he visually does in force for this film. Nolan's producing it...this is his baby if you will.

I agree. I've always thought Brainiac would make a better cinematic villain than Lex Luthor (or at least Luthor of the current incarnation as a socialist's stereotypical ruthless corporate businessman... Luthor was always more interesting as a criminal scientific genius).

Brainiac is a character with much greater scope.

Of course I mean the Silver Age, green-skin android Brainiac (sans the absurd pink costume, naturally) and not the current metallic, done-to-death, Giger-inspired, Terminator-style robot (bleh).

And no more re-imagining, retconning, revisioning, yada-yada-yada, of Superman. Enough, already! I've had it with the self-important, creatively-pretentious trying to add their two cents to the Superman mythos.

Superman doesn't have kid. Legitimate or otherwise.

And let's get rid of the stupid crystalline set design for everything Kryptonian.

I reserve judgement on the Snyder situation until I see the first trailer. Until then, I'm indifferent.

I didn't see Watchmen, but I loved the Dawn of the Dead remake. I do think Snyder will give us an entertaining Superman, which we haven't gotten in a long ass time. I'll take anything to erase my memory of Singer's version.
