I loved Shaun of the Dead, but I thought that Hot Fuzz absolutely blew Shaun of the Dead out of the water.

I loved this movie! I can't wait to see it again.

the only way this is happening is if it somehow mannages to pull off Borat like numbers this weekend (anything over 20 mil) other then that, especially with what happened this week, i don't really see universal opening it wider.

Damnit - this is only playing at one theater in St. Louis (from what I can tell) and my window to catch a show today is too early w/ their schedule.

Saw it last night. The first 2/3rds was pretty slow, but thoroughly funny. The last 1/3rd exploded and was brilliant. Loved it. Better than Shaun of the Dead? I don't think so but it comes pretty damn close

I liked it, but didn't love it as I did "Shaun of the Dead". I think this was the anti-Shaun with the titular hero already larger than life, rather than the anti-hero Shaun was. I expected it to be like "Shaun" with equal bits comedy, action, and warmth...and that is probably my first mistake.

This movie was much more action oriented than anything else. I think it devoted too much time to homage of other over-the-top action send ups like the much talked about "Point Break" and "Bad Boys 2". The problem with that is, they aren't very good movies to begin with. I will definitely take 10 helpings of "HF" over those two any day though as this was a much smarter action pic than many before it.

This took some time to get going, but does pay-off in the end. I would have liked some more of the utterly witty humor that "Shaun" had, also more dealings with Nic Angel's (Simon Pegg) inner strife, like his failings with his ex (but that might have been too reminiscent of Shaun's conflict with Liz).

Don't get me wrong, this movie does have it's laughs, but the main stay is the action which is very nicely done and had I gone into it thinking it was strictly an action pic I might have liked it more.

I think I will like it more on subsequent viewings, luckily i pre-ordered the R2 for June.

It was very good and much, much better than the aforementioned buddy/action pics, but it lacked that charm and wit that they all created for "Shaun".

For those of you who see it with a normal audience, and not at a screening or whatever, could you please say how the audience responded to the flick?

My audience loved it. It was a sold out show. I saw some teenagers beforehand in very large groups, and I thought "Oh great, they'll be talking, won't pay attention to the movie, etc...", but nope. The movie grabbed their attention and they seemed to love it, right along with the rest of the audience.

That was one of the best parts, loved that.

This was one of the loudest films I'm seen in 2007. Overall, a film of 2 different tones, first half dealing with officer Angel being jettisoned to a small, quaint town with a super-low crime rate after being too good of a cop in London (making other cops look bad), and the second half is simply over-the-top, but in a good way.

If you're a fan of Pegg and Frost, it's a must-see, just don't go expecting anything resembling Shaun of the Dead.

I give it 3 stars or a grade of B.

I swear I didn't get it. I thought it was mildly amusing, and by that I was most amused by Timothy Dalton's performance. But at no time did I laugh or even think I might laugh....although people around me laughed a lot. (yes, I like shaun of the dead and I spotted several in-jokes related to it, so I understand that you all laughed, and it confuses me that I didn't laugh.....)

I was very pleased with the film and was very thankful I hadn't seen any spoilers for the flick. The end was unlike anything I ever imagined. :)

Watched Shaun of the Dead for the first time last night to prep myself before I went to see this. Shaun was better. This was pretty solid. A little gory though. Not that I minded, but the lady next to me was having issues with it. Also a tiny bit long, but definitely enjoyable.

I personally don't even remember Shaun of the Dead, but I still laughed my ass off during Hot Fuzz. If it's filled with Shaun of the Dead in-jokes, I wouldn't know. The humor comes from the fact that the movie has no right to take itself so seriously. It's a comedy, but it's played out like a typical dead serious action movie like Bad Boys or Lethal Weapon complete with overly dramatic scenes between characters, an often times inappropriate action movie score, and flashy editing all to tell the story of some small, idyllic suburban town. Of course explaining it takes away from it. But basically, it's every tired Hollywood action movie cliche celebrated with great fun and gusto.

I love how it does the quick cutting action shots for when people are doing mundane things like peeing in the toilet or writing on a piece of paper.

Honestly, I though it sucked. Maybe because Shawn is on of by favorite movies.
But I didn't think the film clicked until the 3rd act. The 1st two were dreadfully slow.

Saw it tonight with the wife; we both hated it, and won't see it again. The funny thing is, we've both enjoyed "Spaced", and SOTD is one of our all-time favorites, bar none. But this just sucked. A (VERY MILDLY) funny bit now & then, but the best stuff is all in the trailer.

In contrast to the previous poster, I saw this last night with my wife and we loved it. We were both laughing our asses off for the bulk of the film. I wonder what some people were expecting? It sounds like some people thought this was going to be, essentially, "Shaun of the Dead 2" and were confused and disappointed that it wasn't. And it isn't. "Hot Fuzz" is its own film, a joyously self-indulgent parody of practically every brainless action film ever made, gloriously swimming in action film cliche after cliche. The most enjoyable film of the year so far.

this is defintely not a parody movie. this is an homage movie in the same vein as SOTD.

parodies are reserved for the mindless crappiness of "Scary Movie". this was defintely not mindless and payed utmost respect rather than lampoon the action flicks of yore which is what makes it a much better movie than any parody could hope to achieve.

these guys (Edgar Wright, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg) love cinema (especially it seems American cinema) and pay tribute in the boldest way. i love that, but just didn't think it hit on the same cylinders as "Shaun" did homaging Romero and the "Dead" flicks of the past.

Um. No? Just because there has been a wave of crappy parodies recently doesn't mean that parody=crap.

I saw it last night and damn, what a movie. As of right now, I like it more than Shaun of the Dead.

Myself and my wife saw a matinee this afternoon, and both of us really enjoyed it. I really wanted to see it, but I didn't think that she would have any interest, but after reading some descriptions about it, she said that she would be fine with me.
