been reading and hearing from you guys about the gore quotent, but the photo still from the most recent issue of Fangoria is both hysterical and really rather quite shocking

The gore was fucking awesome. That was one of the most shocking deaths, but it wasn't the scene that got the biggest audience reaction:

I loved the shit out of this movie. Apart from one beat at the end that I felt was unnecessary, it was perfect.

Just as I said I was going to do, I did go to the screening and Q&A in Atlanta, GA this past Wednesday night. It was, without a doubt, my favorite event that I've ever attended in my life. The theater was packed, and I'm pretty sure that they had to turn people away. I got there very early, and stood in line (I was about six back or so from the front) for a few hours. Little did I know that I actually had a priority pass and didn't have to stand in line, but hey, what are ya gonna do?

Anyway, the theater was totally packed, so I'd say there were about 350 to 450 rabid Pegg, Frost, and Wright fans in all, depending on how many the theater actually holds. The movie received numerous standing ovations and extended periods of applause once the movie was over. During the movie, everyone was laughing, clapping, and everything else. So much so that we all missed a few follow up jokes quite a few times, so I'm going to be sure to go watch the movie once it's released wide.

After the movie was over and the credits started to roll, you could just tell that everyone in the theater was blown away by what they had just watched. The Q&A then started with Pegg, Frost, and Wright and it lasted around one hour. All three of them told great stories, talked about their careers, and just had fun with the fans as they interacted with us all. It turns out that Wednesday was actually Nick Frost's birthday as well, so we all sang happy birthday to him twice as he was given a birthday cake. After all of that was over, anyone who wanted to meet the three guys and get autographs and pictures could do so. I got all three of them to sign my Spaced box set as well as my R2 version of Shaun of the Dead.

If any of you live near where a screening will be taking place, go to it! I drove about two hours or so to get to the theater in Atlanta, and waited outside for around three or four hours, and it was more than worth it.

As for the movie itself, my opinion is more than likely skewed because of everything that took place, but I liked it just as much as Shaun of the Dead, and it gets my highest recommendation. Even if you can't watch a screening of Hot Fuzz, then at least go watch it when it opens wide.

I saw an advance screening followed by a Q&A here in Los Angeles. I didn't drive as far or wait as long but if I had, it still would have been worth it! Awesome movie!! I can't wait to see it again.

So I really can't wait to see this this weekend. i am getting ready by just popping in "Spaced" Series 2 (which i think is much better than Series 1). I think they really hit their groove with the next series. friday, i plan on watching "Shaun of the Dead" for the umpteenth time.

i never thought i would get into such a British troupe (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, & Jessica Stevenson). i mean this group really hits the mark on so many levels. it must be the love of all movies that they share that i warm to so intently.

but, i am so getting in the mood and can't wait...

Edgar's interview on Higher Definition last night was quite insightful to his love of film and his take on the overt homoeroticism the cop genre hints at. Simon and Nicks take on their character's platonic affection was hysterical.

still a little angry that the DC advance screening with Simon/Nick/Edgar in attendence was an exclusive screening.

I wonder how it will be to watch this with a "normal" audience. I'm glad I was able to watch it with 400+ rabid fans. :)

I'm pretty disappointed at the meager 700-theater count Universal is giving this, yet Firehouse Dog and Fracture are everywhere. :rolleyes: It's not playing anywhere near me, so it looks like the R2 DVD in June is going to be my best bet. F you, Uni.

Hopefully they'll release it wide if it becomes successful in its initial run. But yeah, nice move Universal. I have been looking foward to this for months, and now I can't see it.

This is the same thing they did with Shaun of the Dead, so it's not that surprising. I had to wait a month before it came to my town.

Of course, "Hot Fuzz" opens here today, so I'm happy.

I will probably be seeing this tonight. It looks great in all of the trailers and commercials I've seen, and I was a big fan of Shaun of the Dead, so I expect that it will be a lot of fun.

Hot Fuzz is out on about 825 screens, about as much as Borat upon initial release. But I get you... why is The Reaping playing on twice as many screens.

I thought the movie was very good but not as good as I had hoped. Shaun of the Dead, in my mind, is a classic. This movie is simply extremely entertaining. It takes a while to build up speed and once it does it becomes a bit ludicrous, and not in a so-ludicrous-it's-good way. That may sound like a big complaint, but it's not.

The action I thought could've been staged a bit better. I'm not sure if it relied on so many quick cuts as an homage/parody of action films, but the end result is that it wasn't quite as thrilling.

I enjoyed it and have to heartily recommend it. But do keep your expectations in check. It's not the second coming of film. It's just fun.

I had a chance to see the movie last night. I thought the comic relief by Nick Frost was hilarious, although the storyline was absurd. Also, be prepared for the ultra violence in the film. Definitely not a movie for kids.

Did you go to the Norwalk screening ?

No, I went to Century City. It was packed, they turned alot of people away.

Well as I missed out on the screening here in NYC, but finally got to see it tonight... What can I say, I loved it. Easily my fav movie so far this year and it will be hard to top this one for a while. I still put Shaun slightly ahead but it will take a few years before I can compare to it. Even in the scenes where you know a certain joke is coming, you still laugh at it because they pull it off so well. Pegg and Frost really just know how to pull this shit off.

Also, they are quite subtle with their jokes (like during Shaun, i never went, oh look a night of the living dead reference ect) which is why most of the recent spoof movies don't really work too well.

Did the R rating give that away?

Just saw it tonight (I can't believe the AMC down the road was playing this). The theater was full and the audience really got into it, which I didn't expect considering the crowd the AMC usually draws. I didn't get to enjoy the first 15 minutes because I was still seething over the asshole sitting next to me who was talking on his cell phone. Me threatening to murder him at the top of my lungs managed to shut him up after only two minutes ("Jeeze, dude, the movie just started"), but it took me a while to calm down.

After that I really enjoyed it. Shawn of the Dead was better in my book (maybe because it seemed to come out of nowhere, and Hot Fuzz was heavily advertised), but it was still a great goofy movie.

I don't see how this film doesn't expand to more screens after a week or two. It was fucking hilarious.
