Re: THE THING: prequel
I am curious to what they are going to call the film. The Thing Rises, The Thing Lives, or how about The Thing from Another World as a nice homage to the original? I really have high hopes for this. I cant even count how many hundreds of times I have watch the JC film.

I saw it as a kid all the fucking time cuz it was on USA, ugh. I was soooo bored. I don't remember. I just remember the weak epic battle ending and John Travolta's boots.

some of the worst bootleg footage imaginable...but here's a quick peak at the trailer. The shots of the room w/ the ice block put a smile on my face.

I would hate to see those videos. I really have to withhold judgment on the trailer as that looked horrific. I couldn't tell what was happening, aside from the block of ice. Seemed like a lot of jerking around to avoid people seeing he had a camera.

Was that Vaughn from Community at the beginning of the trailer?
Shitty quality aside, it actually doesn't look that bad. It kind of looks like what I had in mind for this. I'm looking forward to seeing a better quality version.

Re: THE THING: prequel
It's a remake, using the "set at the Norwegian camp" premise as a cheat in order to call it a prequel and technically not be lying, even though in execution, there probably won't be anything substantial differentiating it from a remake. That's just my two cents, though.

AND THEN..they can release John Carpenter's film in theaters somehow...and THEN I can finally see it in a theater.
That'd be cool..but I doubt that'd happen.

Re: THE THING: prequel
Looks like this could be another Universal fuckup, al la The Wolfman.
Universal Moves Up Fast Five, Removes Thing Prequel From Schedule
Universal Studios has removed the prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing from its 2011 schedule, instead opting to move Fast Five aka Fast and the Furious Five into its former April 29, 2011 release slot. Fast Five had originally been scheduled to come out in June where it would have gone up against the Warner Bros. comedy Something Borrowed and J.J. Abrams' Super 8.
According to a Universal studio source talking to Hero Complex, The Thing wasn't going to be ready in time despite production commencing last spring. Fast Five with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Tyrese, meanwhile, is guaranteed money so moving it into a less competitive time frame should equate to a guaranteed pay off.
As of now The Thing is stuck in limbo without even a hint as to when it will hit theaters. I nominate October when moviegoers are actually looking for a little horror at the box office.

Translation: We saw the film and thought it sucked, so we're going to have re-shoots and bring in 3 different editors and chop it down to 85 minutes, and then dump it in February 2012.

Re: THE THING: prequel
After seeing some of the promo pics I was starting to look forward to it. I know it's obviously going to pale in comparison to Carpenter's flick, but was still a bit anxious.
