Requiem for a Dream -- Aronofsky

http://www.apple.com/trailers/newline/the_two_towers/

The song playing during the last minute of the trailer is the exact same tune played throughout Requiem for a Dream, but with different insturments, is it not? Why?

YES!!! I noticed that as well...great music. The sad thing is that everyone will love it in the trailer but not nearly as many people would hear it together with the great movie that is Requiem for a Dream.

Oh well...

Considering Requiem for a dream is a big success in an sense, I do believe many will recoginize it, as many have already connected it to it in the many many other threads this has been talked about.

You must have seen the rough cut of One Hour Photo.

I noticed it too. The first time I heard the song in Requeim For A Dream I thought that it would be a great dramtic song to use in other movies.

Why is Requiem for a Dream so good? (have not seen it yet)

Since it comes on tonight on showtime (unrated), I was thinking about watching or taping this movie, but have no idea what it is about or what all the fuss is about. The only thing I know is that it is about the drug culture of america, but that doesn't seem like the best of 2000? Someone fill me in.

Just watch it. It's one of the most convincing anti-addiction films ever made.

Heh, I was ready to pounce on this bait, but I'm leaving work, so I'll keep it short. It's essentially arty exploitation communicated through every conceivable camera trick. For a film that's all style, it's way too slap-dash to take seriously.

To me anyway, it's basically following the rise and fall of a few kids, or maybe just the fall, who are getting worse and worse into the H. It's a pretty intense movie. I's suggest at least checking it out on TV while it's free and all.

You have to see it to understand why it's so good. One hell of a powerful movie.

It's an almost unbearably intense movie. I thought it was fantastic and amazingly effective, but at the same time I don't know if I ever want to see it again. Take that as you will.

Highly entertaining druggie flick with nice visuals and a great soundtrack (if a bit repetative.)

Remember folks, Rypro asked why RfaD is so good, not why it sucked ass-to-ass. It's not bait, he's just concerning himself with the positives.

Personally, I think it's an intense, highly stylized movie, that one can read as much or as little as they want into it.

Yep, I'll make the "if it sucks ass" or "it kicks ass" statements soon after I watch it. Also, to understand everything, does it require multiple viewings, or should I just come here and say what I didn't understand.

It's pretty straightforward... relentless and constantly pummelling your head with an oak mallet is more like it. I think you'll pretty much get it on a first viewing. While I think it's a great film, I haven't watched it but once. It's pretty draining, IMO.

Sorry mang, couldn't resist. But the reasons I stated are why it's considered to be good. Sure, it's worth one viewing, but I just found parts laughable.

Sorry here too sundog. Reading back on your post, it wasn't all that much of a slam, but every RfaD thread I've ever come across has instantly deteriorated into an endless "It sucks! vs. It's great!" argument, and so maybe I was overly eager and proactive in an attempt to head that off.

It's all good bruddah.

What makes this movie worthwhile is the way the movie totally draws you into the experiences that these people are enduring. They are on a downward spiral of drug addiction, and while I do feel the movie's message is perhaps fairly simple and it doesn't really delve into drug culture, just the negative aspects of drug addiction, it does use filmic devices to really make you feel what the characters feel. You don't just see them experience...you experience it with them. That's why this movie is so intense...cause you walk out feeling like you just took this downward spiral with them.
