Requiem for a Dream -- Aronofsky

Since I saw it in a theater I didn't walk out but I thought about it. If I'd been watching at home I would have shut it off. I didn't like it at all.

I loved it a lot when I was younger, but upon watching it again I've noticed some things that I used to love (the editing being the big thing) I started to find really annoying and manipulative. I think a film should be led by the acting, not the editing. Could have been so much more subdued and allowed the scene's more time to breathe. I dunno, it's still good and I recommend everyone see it, but it's just not the masterpiece I once thought it was.

Here's some good responses from a thread earlier this month:

I agree. The editing can get a little overly kinetic at times. While the performances are great (especially from Wayans and Burstyn) and the subject matter is engaging, it is overwhelmingly draining to watch the film.

I still say that they should show this movie to every kid in junior high and high school instead of doing the stupid "D.A.R.E." or "Just say no" shit that they do. If this movie doesn't scare you from doing drugs, then I don't know what would.

Yeah, I don't see any similarities between this and Memento.
Other than the fact both are good movies (though I prefer Requiem... but that's another story.) I do recall really enjoying movies around that time though (Crouching Tiger, Black Hawk Down, Memento, Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive, Requiem for a Dream).

I agree with CK
It's good but time hasn't been good to it. It takes huge poetic license to get the point across...
Reefer Madness of the 00's I read somewhere... not so far off

Well, folks, I finally saw it...and...
Wow. What a drag. What a drag that I spent $3.99 + tax to blind buy it (Best Buy had it on sale last week). The "cool cinematography" sucked. The plot was fair, but it's execution was just ... bad. Completely unrealistic. Were Jennifer Connelly a true addict, she'd have been doing those things (giving head, etc) for dope LOOOOONG before the point in her character's life in the movie. I know, I've been in/around the music biz for almost 30 years, and hell, I've had women on my living room floor or bathroom shower stall doing more than her ("Ass to ass!") for much less, LOL. I want my 102 minutes back!
Finally, the characters could garner no sympathy from me or my wife, who suffered through this "film" also.
