I can't really describe this movie. Just go see it. It is too powerful for my words to describe it.

A few thoughts:

Tommy's complaints. This is exactly why I liked the movie. There were so many things that didn't make sense except for the fact that this is a world where no children are being born. Humans are alive, but extinct.

Continuity goofs aside, Cuaron is such a madman for detail it is unbelievable. So much of sthe story is implied and because it is never explained, it makes it even more odd. Some moments, things I really liked:
Spoiler:

- Burning cow corpses in fields. What happened? Sickness? Plague?
- Clues that things have been very bad for a while. Headlines like "Russia Detonates Atomic Bomb" / "Test Tube Daisy Dies" / "Fertility Drug Kills"
- The sheer popularity of Quietus

I can't even begin to wrap my head around this movie. Just go see it.

In a related aside, what was the crowd like for everyone seeing it? The theatre I went to was filled with a lot of 16-20 year olds, mostly male. It was a very odd crowd for this type of movie. Good though, as this needs to be succesful.

This is finally at my local theater - I can't wait to see it. I've been looking forward to it for months.

It could also get nods for directing (Cuaron), best actor (Owen), best supporting actor (Caine), screenplay.

These are the box office figures for Friday from ShowbizData.com, and Children of Men isn't even listed. I mean, The Cleaner made more money than it did, if this is true. It would mean Children of Men might only make about 3 million dollars for the weekend. I find that hard to believe, since when it played on only 16 screens, it managed to make about 1.5 million in 2 weeks. So on 1200 screens it only makes about 3 million? Hopefully there was just a delay in the movies friday gross being reported, and that's why it wasn't in the top 10. It should be number 1.

Eh, I think this can be enjoyed just as easily in DVD. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it. I just can't think of any scenes that really needed the big screen to do them justice. Heck, this wasn't even shot in 2.35:1.

One bit of film making awesomeness that needs to be applauded is the long, long take through the refugee camp under attack with no cut away shots.

This will be a must own on DVD, as I think I'll get more and more out of this movie each time I watch it.

I dunno, I felt both the car and uprising sequences were worth admission to see on the big screen alone.

Cool, apparently ShowBizData screwed up and just left Children of Men off on accident. It was at #3 on Friday night with 3.4 million.

It's a shame Perfume is tanking so bad.

But the movie already made its money back abroad ($95m outside of the US, won't even crack $1m in the US).

Children of Men and Dreamgirls are the only two movies to gross over $2k per theater.

Another solid film this winter season...Although you could see the way certain things were going, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I would love to see a movie adaptation of Y The Last Man, this is probably as close as we'll get

Saw this last night. Excellent film, though I thought the actress who played Kee was pretty lowsy.

I just saw this and a question: at one point in the movie, Clive Owen seems to really hurt his foot and the continues to limp throughout the movie....either it's really good continuity or he really got hurt during the shoot....does anyone know if he really hurt his foot? Also, at times I thought I was going to end up recommending this film to people who like stuff like 12 Monkeys, but ultimately I left the theater unsatisfied; I can still recommend the film, but not as enthusiastically....

I think his injury was written into the script, but Cuaron really knows how to direct action scenes that look organic and natural.

What Theo does to Sid drew gasps from each of the 2 audience I saw this film with.

Just saw it and liked it a lot. It's a really well made b movie, which is not a bad thing. Like a higher class version of mad max or escape from la.

So I still think it's safe to make a y the last man without any retread or anything.

I thought it sucked. As soon as they got to Michael Caine's house and there was a totally obvious poster on the wall "Don't invade Iraq" they lost me. I agree with the previous poster who said they made the immigration policy seem evil, yet I also thought, well, that's what they gotta do. And they said they can't turn the baby over to the govt because they'll claim it belongs to a rich black socialite. WHO CARES, it will be protected, and they can study the mother and the baby to see how this one was born.

The only parts I liked were the brief action scenes in the city, very Stalingradish.

The film made everything seem pretty evil, really. It's not like the activists (terrorists) where in the right either. It was bascially saying only trust yourself.

The government was pretty untrustworthy, while they would protect the baby, they would certainly not give it a good life, nor the mother. Plus could you imagine how the terrorists would act? That baby would get killed sooner or later. I don't trust the human project either really, but it at least seemed more hopeful. There's a reason the film ended the way it did.

I'm a Bush supporter and I still enjoyed the movie immensely. I don't let those things bother me.

Was it just me, or was the majority of her dialogue over-dubbed/ADR?

I'm surprised (and not) that people are letting their personal political ideas get in the way of being able to see this as a terrific film. Because characters in a movie about a dystopian future have different political ideas than you, the film sucks?

Spoiler:
The hooded "Gitmo prisoner" was a little much, IMO...and not subtle in the least.

I didn't think the film sucked, I'm just tired of being preached too.

Okay, I get it, you don't agree with the current administration...now shut-up and entertain me.

I didn't see the film making a political statement on what is going on now, maybe showing a reflection of it, but I didn't feel like it was telling me to feel one way or the other about it. I saw things and I reacted a certain way. If you had a negative reaction, then that says something about you.

Loved this film. I will be seeing this one again. The steadycam master shots were amazing. They are all over the place.

One question did anyone catch this.

Spoiler:
Towards the end when Clive Owen is going into the building to rescue Kee, a blood pack explodes and gets on the lens of the camera. It was on there for a minute or two, then I noticed it was gone. I didn't even notice the edit. Anyone else?

There wasn't an edit, it actually dried up right after he enters the building. (You can see it fading ... then it's gone)
