the opening title scene wasn't in 3-d? I can't imagine how loud some of the scenes would be in the IMAX theater. Ay.

the 3D was great looking
and the 3 animated movies there were previews for that I think are going to be all 3D also looked great 3D wise, but I don't think I'd go see them

I don't remember anything being overly loud

and the opening titles would have been great in 3D, and should have been easy to do compared to the live action stuff that was made 3D after being filmed

My girlfriend wears glasses and had no problems with the 3-D glasses fitting over her regular glasses.
but the little icons aren't really needed, the 3d sections are blurry without the glasses and the regular part is blurry with them

and if you have polarized sun glasses it's cool to look at the 3d glasses. turn them one way and one lens turns black, turn them another and the other lens goes black

The only super loud part I can think of was when the villians set up the machine gun on top of the building and unloaded on all the cops below. That was an earful.

Count me as unimpressed also. Waste of an extra $8(two people) if you ask me. One one of those 4 scenes is truly impressive(shuttle/plane sequence), but not worth the extra scratch.

Now it also depends on your IMAX. We have an IMAX at our regular theater. It is only 2 stories tall vs. the standard 4. It was added recently, retro-fitted an existing theater. The screen was barely larger than any of the others in the cinema complex.

OK, got it. How come spoiler tags aren't an automatic option you can choose when posting? I mean we have thingies to change the color, insert an image, link or email address, change the font and size, quote, add smilies, bold, italic, underline and positioning the text. Shouldn't spoiler tags be one of those options on a forum such as this one where there are many cases they should be used? Dummies like me have to have everything spelled out for them. I know nothing about html. I did a search for spoiler or spolier tags but nothing telling me how to do them came up.

The A/c sucked in the IMAX Theater. I also didnt enjoy the legroom. The movie was way too long.I saw it in Irvine.

I thought the reason for the new Superman suit was because somehow the 3-d was going to make it standout. That was not the case it made no differance.

Aw, I'm disappointed to hear that wasn't in 3-D. When I was in the regular theater yesterday and the title came rolling out, I thought it definitely would be in 3-D at the IMAX.

Ditto...

I was looking forward to seeing those opening credits in 3-D.

Not sure where you got that idea. That was never the case, the suit was just a more modern take on the original, which Singer and his crew deemed to be to 70's. Not to meniton, I would imagine that the darker suit made it easier for the CGI to blend in.

I saw it at the Brennan here in Vegas at the Palms. It was OK, especially the
Spoiler:
plane rescue scene
which got a huge applause at the end. But it's such a small IMAX theater, not much bigger than a regular screen, except in height -- and since it's shot in 2.35:1 ratio, the height doesn't figure into it. It just looked like a slightly larger than normal screen. I wish I had seen it at the huge Luxor IMAX instead. I just didn't know how small the Brennan was

I just came back from the movie and I gotta say that I was pleased not only with the Imax presentation but the movie as a whole. I was hoping for some more scenes in 3D especially the credits as they were begging for a 3D upgrade.

I came to the conclusion that if they can perfect this 3D thing a bit more than I imagine that all movies will eventually go 3D as that is the last way for theaters to differentiate themselves from TV. TV can go 3D but the scale and presentation cannot be matched like a theater can.

Sound was great, though.
Superman Returns is an IMAX DMR print. All of Warner's IMAX releases to the point have been true 70mm DMR prints. The Polar Express, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, V For Vendetta, and Poseidon were all projected in IMAX correctly (and not as blow-ups) with the former being the only one containing 3D elements.

If it was a blow-up, there would've been a notice before the film mentioning that it's not the correct way of showing a film in IMAX.

An IMAX DMR print is still a glorified blowup of 35mm (or HD) elements. It wasn't filmed with IMAX 70mm cameras, to which is what Groucho was referring.

True, however, all the IMAX DMR prints I have seen look superior to the 35mm prints regardless how it was shot. I saw both of The Matrix sequels and V For Vendetta in both 35mm and IMAX and the IMAX prints blew wear near perfect. I would prefer seeing a 35mm film blown-up to IMAX DMR than seeing it in 35mm.

I've only seen Superman Returns in 35mm at the moment, but I plan on seeing it in IMAX sometime soon.

Thank heavens it is playing at the Palms IMAX in Las Vegas. I HATE the Luxor screen and its (literally) three row theatre. The 3-D films are unwatchable there. Plus, they don't even let you pick out your own seat. Just get to the Palms early, sit in the back and you are good to go.

I was most impressed with the plane scene and the yacht action scene. There were many shots that looked as if they had actually been shot in 3-D. The first scene with Clark had some artificial moments.

Apparently the next HARRY POTTER will feature some IMAX 3-D as well, though the first feature length 2-D to 3-D conversion will be NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (via Digital 3-D projection) this October.

The only good seat in the Palms IMAX theatre is the back row directly in the middle.

The Luxor IMAX theatre would be fine if they don't have to strap you in and if you could have the ability select your seat.

oh is this gonna be in IMAX 3D ? I thought this was a DLP 'Dolby Digital 3D' presentation.

This movie didn't (not that it mattered, really) and it actually had black bars at the top and bottom.

yeah unfortunately nearly all the IMAX DM'rd films I have seen feature the film in 2.35 with black bars on the top and bottom (gawd, how annoying ). The exception being:

- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Robots
- Fantasia 2000

which were altered to increase the image to fill up more of the IMAX screen.

I've seen Superman Returns twice at the Boise IMAX and thought it looked tremendous. I've got a visual condition where my eyes have trouble seeing through the 3D glasses, but it was much better than any other 3D image I've ever seen. I saw Poseidon on the same screen and thought it looked just as clean and bright as Superman. My only complaint, as mentioned in a post above, is that the theater seating arrangement is terrible. There is virtually no leg room at all between the rows. Now, I'm 6'10" so I'm going to feel it more than most, I usually need an empty seet in front of me just to make sure if I kick the seat I'm not bothering anybody, but my wife and friends (all normal sized ) thought it was almost unbearably close. That's the first sold out IMAX I've attended, looks like I'll be sticking to off hours showings from now on.

They weren't altered. In the case of the first two, both were projected in IMAX of their OARs of 1.85:1 and in the case of the latter, was projected in it's OAR of 1.66:1.

that I did not know - Robots at AMC's Lincoln Square (NYC) looked immense that's why I didn't think it was at it's OAR of 1.85.
