Explain the ending please (Planet of the Apes remake)

If this has been posted or discussed before, I apologize in advance. I did a search, and couldn't find it.

Anyway, could someone please explain the ending for Planet of the Apes (2001)? My boyfriend and I just finished watching it, and I'm having a hard time putting the whole picture together with the ending. Thanks!

I think Burton tried to mirror the ending of the book, so when Marky Mark gets back to earth it is actually in the future now and Apes have become top dog.

Which ending? The deux ex machina ending where the probe monkey saved the day, or the tacked on bullshit ending to give it the "twist" they felt was mandatory?

"The ending" is typically the place at which there is no more . . . such as the last page of a book or the last credit to roll off the movie screen. The term has also been used to describe where an object stops, or a hypothetical doomsday scenario which involves a complicated mixture of freaky coincidences involving Prince Charles, roughly 300 lemming, and an uncanny mixture of equal parts weapons grade plutonium and and edible form of Silly Putty.

Hope that helps. This the ending of this post. Well, the actual ending will be marked with an asterisk . . . *
