Dear Lord, I loves me some Intarweb humor.

Please tell me the OP is not serious. I hate to be a snob, but are the mods going to have to start screening the noob posts around here? There have been some really weird topics from them lately.

Perhaps a few should lurk awhile before jumping right in.

Ok, but thanks for the info you were trying to be helpful.

lowenbotten 05-25-06 11:07 AM

Geeze what's with all the negativity around here. I was just trying to post a helpful website. Since movies are a hobby for all of us, I thought you'd all like to know about imdb. I guess not.

Thanks for trying to be helpful, but not very many people that enjoy movies don't know what imdb is. It's just one of those things that everybody knows about. There have been some joke posts in this thread but honestly it would be like somebody going to a sports message board and saying something like "I just found this great website. It has everything you'd ever want to know about sports. Here it is"

http://espn.go.com/

Or "Here's a great search engine that I just found."

http://www.google.com/

But if you lurked around awhile, added to the existing discussions for a bit, you probably would have found out that this is pretty common knowledge around here.

When I go to any new forum I check it out a awhile before posting a new thread. You know, do a search, see if I'm about to create a duplicate. If you take the chance to create a thread without doing your homework be ready for a little ribbing. That's all. ;)

Welcome to DVDtalk by the way. :)

It's chocolate milk.

Technically (and I know some will dispute this), it's not even an acronym, it's an abbreviation. An acronym forms a word, like "laser" {L(ight) A(mplification by) S(timulated) E(mission of) R(adiation)}.

Some abbreviations become de facto acronyms because they have become words in themselves (like "DVD"), but I don't think IMDB has reached that level.

That's the USA list. I was talking global. :)

Actually, "initialism" would be a better word to describe "IMDb."

No one means any harm, but it's like going into a dog afficianado forum and telling them about the American Kennel Club.

I thought it was a word, pronounced IMDUHBAH. Thanks, this thread has been helpful. I'm off to share this info on other message boards.

Not me...I fucking hate movies, and especially hate dvds.

IMDB? Google? Damn... I am curious. Now if someone would please just invent a keyboard so I could type (I believe that's what you would do with a keyboard) the address (is that what is called?) or maybe someone could invent some sort of clicky thing where I could just click a word and go to the site? Anyone??

GIjon213 05-25-06 07:17 PM

lowenbotten, if you are not some one just playing a joke, welcome. imdb.com is a great site, and here are a few more you may be interested in>

A good site for DVD prices.

And just some helpful advice, you have only 8 posts, I think it may be worth signing up under another name, and save yourself being reminded of this thread for many years to come. -smile-

Derrich 05-26-06 01:31 AM

All jokes aside. Does anyone know of a site where I could search for other internet sites. I want to be able to type in a subject, and get a list of sites about it.

You know, I never even discovered the PETER PAN GUY until 2002, and posted on a forum that OMG you need to check this guy out. The public anal tobogganing was rude and sudden, unlubed and full of chafey badness.

CHAFEY. BADNESS.

Rubix 05-26-06 02:24 AM

that imdb site you posted is pretty cool, but i can't find the link to download the movies? do you think i need to upgrade my mosiac browser?!?!?!?

fmian 05-26-06 02:54 AM

You'll need one of those new 9600 Baud modems to download movies quickly. Just make sure you have a spare serial port on your computer though.

MoviePage 05-26-06 03:01 AM

I called 1995 with this information, and everyone got excited!
