"I don't see where $160M went for Poseidon. Except for a few exterior shots & a couple of larger sets (lobby & ballroom) most of the rest of the movie has small enclosed sets and not realy effects, just water being pumped in. Even the exterior shots and the wave hitting the boat didn' seem like they could cost that much. They were cool but nothing ground breaking"
Samething I thought when I saw Poseidon. Good movie but where did all the money go. josh lucas, kurt russell, richard dreyfuss and emmy rossum. they're not that expensive of actors. wolfgang peterson, he doesn't get paid that much. where did the supposed 160 million dollars go? the exterior shots of the wave and ship were okay not that great or ground breaker. the people inside beign tossed around was okay. besides the ballroom and lobby and maybe the prop, there was no big sets. and no of those other sets were that great to be worth anywhere near that money. the rest of the movie was elevator shaft, kitchen, heating duct, rooms and hallways. Nothing in this movie closely approximated anything worth costing between 140 and 180 million. wb got ripped off or is lying about how much the movie cost to get more publicity and make it seem like an even movie.

Christ, they can pull off amazing CGI in War of the Worlds in six months (and with a cheaper budget), yet Poseidon had it's share of glaring over-the-top CGI shots (e.g. the opening sequence).

if davinci code is not a huge hit this weekend, it is going to be a long summer for the movie studios. kids movies will do well, hedge and cars. superman returns will do well. but if davinci code can't break through to legitimate hit status than the rest of the summer movies are in serious trouble because if the a movie based on a best selling book for years can't make money how can a movie like miami vice.
mi3 has mad 84 million in 10 days or so and is being considered a disappointment. mi3 boxoffice went down 48 percent which is not that bad. and it held on to the number one spot at the box office. huge hit overseas. problem is mi3 cost 150 million plus advertising. It's funny but the media is totally ready to pounce on tom cruise. they want him to fail. i hope that mi3 can hang in there to make 150 million and over 400 maybe 500 million worldwide. I liked the movie, it had a bad ending and was replay of many other films, but it was still entertaining except the ending when ethan hunt went solo. it's going to be close, 150 million might be tough to reach for mi3 considering the competion. i hope poseidon can reach at least 100 million, that might be impossible considering it only made 20 million this weekend. both entertaining popcorn films, in previous summers i have seen bad movies become huge hits while two decent films are struggling. can you say dvd, downloading and high ticket prices with annoying people in the theaters. when I went to see mi3 they couldn't even frame the movie right. which is a constant problem now matter which theater i go to.

Gotta give MI-3 its due. It may have dropped way off but it was Mothers Day weekend.
I personally think DaVinci is going to be a big hit. I'll be there this weekend.

Not quite as grimm, but still bad. (Poseidon wound up making more per screen).

Since I felt that Poseidon was ANOTHER needless remake, I'm hoping that if we have a few more bombs like this Hollywood might wake up and start putting more original material on the screen.
But The Omen will probably be a big hit and my dreams will be dashed.
