House of Flying Daggers has been listed a couple times and I think that in no way applies, I have heard of no one that has hated this movie.
This also goes for Ali G: In Da House.
My opinion would be that a universally hated movie would be one that is more disliked than liked, so yes it could have a large box office but not be liked by most (though that is less than likely because word of mouth would kill off most movies before they become a success if they truely are hated.)

I thought A.I. was so much better than MINORITY REPORT or WAR OF THE WORLDS, but everyone else disagrees.

Obviously no movie is going to be universally hated, so what you're going for are movie that are just generally hated. So let's take a look at what critics and casual viewers have to say about some of the hated movies from this thread and see if they generally hated them:House of Flying Daggers - 88% RT, 7.6 IMDb
Star Wars Episode III - 82% RT, 8.0 (#241 All-Time) IMDb
The Thin Red Line - 79% RT, 7.2 IMDb
War of the Worlds - 72% RT, 6.7 IMDb

I just thought of one. Soldier starring Kurt Russel is pretty much universally hated, especially by critics. I think it received a 2% rating on RT, 1 positive review, and not a single big name critic liked it.

Oh I just remembered another film I love.
Bio-Dome
It's stupid but very funny and entertaining...which was the point.
Mimi: Where'd you come from?
Doyle: My mom and the authorities are still trying to figure that out.

Cool as Ice (Love the scratching record sound when he knocks on the door)
I am a Michael Bay fan and always will be.
Let's add Hulk and Vanilla Sky to that list.

Oh yeah, I also really liked The Hulk, once again except for the incredibly bizarre last fifteen minutes.

are u kidden me? youre far from going out on a limb if you think anchorman, the rock, and the life aquatic are universally hated or disliked...2 of them grossed a lot fo money...and all 3 are incredibly well liked at almost any college in the US...no way are these hated...

All the Bowery Boys/Dead End Kids/East Side Kids B-pictures from the 40s. Not classic movies like Dead End or Angels with Dirty Faces, both of which are excellent, but the cheesy comedy ones where they're chasing ghosts or Nazis.

Grease 2
Star Trek 5
Armageddon
Independence Day
Meet Joe Black
Superman 3
Waterworld
The Postman
Moonraker
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Poltergeist 2
Halloween 2
Mary Reilly
Fluke
The first 20-30 minutes of Ishtar are GOLD. As soon as the "story" starts it's all downhill. But I can watch the beginning of this movie over and over again.
There's a really weird reaction that EVERYONE seemed to have with Joe vs. the Volcano. Read a sampling of the reviews for the DVD. Nearly everyone says that they hated it when they first saw it, but after subsequent viewings, they love it.
I won't say Anchorman, because I don't believe that movie is universally hated. The legend of that movie just grows and grows.

Oh yeah 1941 is a seriously underrated comedy classic,I love it!
Meanwhile Grease 2 IS a 'bad' film, but so cheesy...it's fun. I love it and some of the songs are good, while some flat out corny.

Another disappointing film that I really like is Stargate and if any of you have been hiding under a rock these past eight years, it of course spawned a successful TV spin-off, Stargate-SG1. So even if you hated that film, at least it gave life to something better.

I see Stargate and disappointing (in the box office?) in the same sentence?
