While I would be interested in seeing the books adapted, I also do not want to see it done. I usually can look past flaws/changes between books and movies, but with a few sources, I am afraid I would be too critical. Dragonlance is one of those. It would have to fit my vision near perfectly, but I know it wouldn't. Honestly, I think I would rather see a very high quality animated series over a movie series.

There's some good material there, but they'd probably just botch it like the Dungeons & Dragons movie.

I think Chuck Norris would make a pretty good Tanis.

A cinematic Raistlin might just be the coolest movie sight ever.

One thing I'd like them to do is three movies based on the Legends trilogy first. They could in the movies do short "backfill" flashbacks based on the Chronicles trilogy.

Why the Legends trilogy first? Because unlike the Chronicles trilogy, the story of Raistlin and Caramon's relationship is what drives this excellent trilogy on. Also--

Spoiler:
The problem with the Chronicles trilogy is that too much of the story is not properly presented in the novels themselves--you need to "read between the lines" of the original D&D game modules get some idea of the full story.

I believe I've answered this before. I'm all for it if:

- They get Weis and Hickman to be consultants/co-writers on it. It's their creation after all, and we should be so lucky that they're still around for us to get ideas from.

- They get Larry Elmore and Matt Stawicki to be the art designers of the movie, much like Alan Lee and John Howe were for LOTR.

And yes, a live action Raistlin, if cast right, could very well be one of the best characters ever. I'd have to disagree with Ray about starting with Legends first though. I thought it had more boring(for lack of a better term) moments than Chronicles.

So any casting or director suggestions?

Though I haven't seen it, the director of Nightwatch might be a good choice. Or Gore Verbinski, because he seems to be able to catch the epic of things.

Aye it would work great as a high quality animated series. They could do whole season on one book and get it right. Live I am afraid would be another D&D like movie or just look so off to half the fanbase.

No. Absolutely not. To do any justice to the series would take a grander scale than Peter Jackson did with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I just do not see any studio investing that much money into the movies.

Hmmm....interesting. As long as Margaret and Tracy are involved, I think we're in good shape. From Margaret Weis herself:

Dear Friends,

I really wanted to wait until we could make the WAHOO Big Announcement on the dragonlance movie site (which is coming any day now, so keep watch!). But since Lucy Lawless gave us away, I'll let you know what's going on. Paramount Studios is making Dragons of Autumn Twilight as a full-length, adult, animated movie. I'll let the movie site provide you with details on the director, screen play writer, animation house, and all that.

Suffice it to say, Tracy and I have been working with the production team for over a year now. They've been wonderful to work with! They've allowed us to have script approval and asked for our suggestions. They've shown us all the art work and allowed us approval on that (as well as the WoTC art director in charge of Dragonlance). We've been working with the Whitestone Council people on this as well. (Thanks, guys!)

From what I've seen, it's going to be amazing! The art is great. Hopefully some of it will be up on the movie site. And Tracy and I will be talking more about the movie and maybe bringing along some art pieces on our book tour.

Tracy and I are both very excited about this!

Margaret

I noticed some of the casting has been confirmed already.

The FAQ says that the movie will have a running time of 90-100 minutes. I am kind of leery of this. The Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy were 400+ page books with a lot of stuff going on in those 400 pages. How are they going to cram all of this into an hour and a half?

Elves? Dragons? Fantasy action? I'm there. As long as the same D&D stinkers aren't responsible. Could be a lot of fun, though.

I have to agree. I think the movie needs a 2+ hour run-time! So much goes on in the Chronicles.

For some reason I can't quite put Jack Bauer's voice with Raistlin's visage. And I think Michelle Trachtenberg might sound too youthful for Tika. Can't wait to see some production art.

I'm a bit disheartened they couldn't make a live action movie but this is better than nothing!

I just hope they get the magic and Raistlin right. I like the Keifer Sutherland choice.

I;m glad they didn't cut out any of the main characters either. Quite an ensemble cast.

I can almost guarantee you he won't sound anything like JAck Bauer. Expect a thin, soft, raspy voice. Keifer has the acting chops and I have faith he will do the character justice.

I hope they allow the filmmakers to keep it at whatever length they feel necessary.

But, as mentioned in my first post in this thread, this is what I prefer over live action.
