United 93 is pretty much the exact opposite of Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor should be a guide on how not to turn a real life tragedy into a hollywood movie. Rather then add a bunch of bad actors and added personal drama United 93 understands that the event itself was more then enough to create a tense thriller. I believe this is why United 93 works so well and why movies like Pearl Harbor really don't.

Or are you actually hearing joe 6-pack say they hate arabs in general more now because of the movie?

Well, this is inevitably going to get a bump due to next Tuesday's DVD release, so why not snow?
I caught the movie this morning on DVD and frankly, I found it to be pretty bland and uninvolving. It's been done before, this "a day in the life of.." style movie. I can appreciate the raw feel, using average joe actors, but it just chronicles the events of 9/11. That's about it. Terrorists are religious zealots with a crazy agenda handed down from "their god". The movie provoked no emotions whatsoever from me, personally, other than I felt bad for the families for whom this movie was "dedicated" to as some sort of a tribute, given the level of dramatic license taken with it. The end especially was just totally cliche, and given the devlopments that were made before the movie was released, I think it was in bad taste and another example of naive pro-USA propaganda.

How is it pro-USA propaganda when it pretty much damns the administration's and military's slow responses to the unfolding events? And what are these developments you speak of?

I just saw it a couple of weeks ago ... Best Picture nom, anyone think? It was certainly the best movie I've seen so far this year. The final moments are heart rending.

Either way, I agree with the comment above about being up for Best Picture this year, I think it should definately get a nod.
