So how long before a remake of Jaws is made?

I was having a little Jawsathon at this house the past 2 days and began to wonder with all of the remakes of classic films how long it would be before Jaws gets a remake.

Of course I feel that it should never happen, but with technology being what it is today, they could make one helluva cool looking Great white.

If you were in charge of making the remake, what would you change? Who would you cast? Who would you want to direct?

Or do you think a sequel would happen first?

add in ll cool j and a dash of sam l. jackson.
have renny harlin stir it up.
and release it 7 years ago.

I would certainly kill myself, if given the task, after killing those associated with wanting to push a remake forward.

Don't forget to make the sharks super smart.

Hopefully and probably NEVER.

I think it's a rule that you can't remake a Spielberg original.

I would like to see this..

Spielberg shooting his original screenplay. JAWS would not have turned out the way it did if there weren't all of the production issues going on and Steven re-writing on the spot with Gottlieb to work around those problems and sitting down with Verna to make something out of what they had.

Jaws 2, Jaws 3-D, Deep Blue Sea, Lake Placid, etc.

Jaws & Raiders of the Lost Ark are two movies they have been trying to remake under different names or sequels since they were released, and none of them are as good as the originals. The problem is they try to dumb them down, and try to appeal to a wide audience instead of just making the movie they way they want to make it and if its a great movie, they will come.

If you get a chance, watch Jaws & Raiders sometime, you'll notice how good those films hold up after 25-30 years.

The only Spielberg movie I'd like to see remade is Jurassic Park.

That's true. I remember hearing that the real reason the shark was not shown earlier in the film is only because the mechanical shark did not work as well as hoped. Yet, it is one of the reasons the film is so good.

Believe it or not, there is a "Jaws 5" out there, but it's a rip off! It's illegal to distribute it in the USA as it actually uses scenes from the original "Jaws" series as well as other shark movies. The footage is stolen, along with some of its soundtrack that they stole from "Star Wars"!

It'd have to be Michael Bay, with big explosions and a loud rock soundtrack and a shark that fights back with guns. Ashton Kutcher and Chris Klein would star.

Probably not long enough. ;-)

But probably quite a while, if ever. I don't think any of the sequels did very well, compared to the original.

I don't think you'll see it in the next few decades, if at all, some films are just untouchable. I think it's more likely you'll see another sequel first (especially if movies like the upcoming MEG, itself based on a ripoff of the original Jaws novel, do well).

As long as Ashton Kutcher is in it playing the grizzled, world-weary, Quint. I'll go see it.

And why not have a few Jaws's in the picture? Why only have one, when you can have 4 or 5.

If only they would make Renny Harlin smarter . . . oh well, at least he beats Uwe Bol (who could be in contention only after the Jaws video game hits shelves).

As for "Meg" wasn't it also written by Peter Benchly? I read it and seem to remember thinking it was pretty good.

Benchley wrote White Shark...

They could redo it and this time follow the book.
Like the affair Mrs. Brody had with Hoopper.
This would keep the bashing down, because they could advertize the film as more closly to the book.

Only way I'd watch it is if the sharks had fricking laser beams on their heads.

And of course, like most modern horrors, they'd have to show us how rough the sharks' lives have been, in an attempt to explain their actions and make us feel sorry for them.

Thankfully they didn't include this subplot in the original jaws film. I shudder to think of Richard Dreyfuss getting it on with Lorraine Grey.

I just recently read the book for the first time recently, and Hooper was much younger and better looking, a real Abercrombie & Fitch type if you will, and Chief Brody was not so good looking and overweight. I admit I was surprised at the subplot initially, but in the context of the novel it works.
