Saw it. Thought it was good, but not great, then again, I guess that's all I was supposed to think. I hope this movie can pull a Scream (the first one) and be something that sticks around for a while but never truly breaks the big time as opposed to something that disappears quickly. I will agree that it is tough to sell a horror movie on the same weekend you have a high profile family film opening. Single guys will go see this, but anyone with a family has to go see Ice Age 2, even those with horror fans as parents. ;)
I will say I was hoping for some more gore and disturbing imagery after seeing the previews, since they held up many more movies that were way more hardcore than this one as being for "wussies." But, I guess that was part of the joke. Still, I was way more disturbed by material in both The Hills Have Eyes (original and re-make), The Devil's Rejects, and the 2004 Dawn of the Dead than this one. Kudos for some neat creature effects though.

No, it doesn't. I was merely stating that I found the material in aforementioned movies more disturbing than this one. James Gunn made a fun movie, no denying that, but I remember the original teasers touting it as being something special. Guess they were only teasing! ;)
FWIW, I have seen more disturbing stuff in PG/cartoons than were in this movie in terms of my personal opinion than many rated R flicks. The Borg are a lot more disturbing to me than a lot of modern baddies in movies, and they're in TV material.

BI2 was only on 1,453 screens which is surprising. slither was actually on 500 more. i think bi2 gets the edge.

Watching the preview just makes me want a DVD release of Night of the Creeps!

i know i just watched this the other night...so classic. it's too bad "Slither" might bomb according to weekend #'s; therefore a bigger, badder sequel maybe lost.

I really enjoyed because it did not take itself serious at all. It was alot of fun.

I agree i am glad it was more fun then disturbing. I am getting so sick of all the horror movies like Hills Have Eyes, hostel, Saw series, Devils Rejects, and all these horror movies that are getting way too dark, gritty and way too violent.

Saw it and I thought it was a lot of fun. The tone and style reminded me most of Tremors and Critters.

My wife and I, as we always do, stayed until the end of the credits. I knew it had to be coming.

My girlfriend made the same observation when we were watching Slither, and I agree with the observation.

Also, I too was reminded of Critters during the opening sequence of the film.

Wasn't nearly as good as Night of the Creeps. It was about 25 minutes of good movie sandwiched between a dull opening hour and a fizzle of an ending. I might have had my hopes too high though. Night of the Creeps is alot of movie to live up to.

Wow. I went through the entire list myself. I cant beleive Kung Pow is so unloved!! I also LOVED boat trip, thought it was hillarious. Darkness was in the list, and i thought it was very well done and a good stab at what evil is. The ending was badass too, i did NOT see that commin!

Otherwise, that list is chock full of bad, bad movies.

Very sad this movie did so poorly at the BO.

I mean it barely did better than Alone in the Dark.

Finally saw this. Despite the fact that I was getting ghettobabble in both ears from the assholes in the back of the theater, I liked it a lot. Not as good as NotC, but still gory fun. That Nathan Filion guy can carry a movie, I think. It was also good to see Michael Rooker again. Gregg Henry was hilarious as the foul-mouthed mayor.

Mentioning enjoying Boat Trip leads to an automatic ban on this forum. I saw Boat Trip after my friend and I bailed out of Dreamcatcher half-way through (people in the theater did the same, just that they left the building completely unlike my friend and I) and we ended up being pissed off that we didn't stay in Dreamcatcher. I give all silly comedies the "benefit of the doubt," but Cuba Gooding Jr. and Horatio Sanz are dead in my eyes.



But back to Slither, I am sad that it underpreformed. Granted, there's still a chance it'll recapture it's $10 million budget in theaters, but I guess that rules out a Slither 2. Bah, I need to stop liking Universal films that are doomed to failure...

Saw this last weekend because my friend is more into horror flicks than I am... from the trailer it really didn't look too appealing to me. Ended up loving the film, just the right amount of comedy and horror. The characters seemed more 'real' than a typical horror movie.
Saw Hills Have Eyes a few days before and it was so-so, enjoyed Slither much more.

Not bad. There were some very brief moments of slowness, but at 96 minutes I suppose they couldn't trim any more out.

The acting was good by everybody, and lots of great lines.

RE: Shawn of the Dead. Okay movie. The first hour of the movie kills it for me, as it was too slow. I loved the ending though.

So you only want to enjoy movies that will have sequels, but not be 'stand-alone' films? If it's a good film that fails to make money, who cares? It's still a good film.

Did you not see the what happens after the end credits? There is a little gag that sets up what could be a possible sequel. A possible sequel that'll probably never be made after it's piss-poor preformance at the box office. However, as long as Gunn makes more fun glue-and-glop b-movies like this one (and similar to his stint at Troma), I'll be all over them.

The other Universal film I was referring to in my comment happened to be Nathan Fillion's other dud at the studio, Serenity. Now there's a film which I would want many sequels and another television series of.

No, I think you should stick to your original plan of only seeing successful, sequel-branching films. While you do that, i'll go change my panties. They've got Arizona-sized skidmarks on them. I didn't follow your advice, and they got all bunched up.

I saw this today and :thmbsdwn: :thmbsdwn: :thmbsdwn:. I can't believe the good reviews this got and how everyone on the board seems to love it. It was a rip-off of similar movies we've seen a million times before. The humor didn't work at all and I could have cared less about any of the characters. I was looking forward to this because Dawn of the Dead 04 was so cool, but this was just terrible.

I loved it. Can't wait for the DVD, which should be any day now after this films box office.

Maybe they will call it "The Bendy Arm Edition".

Saw this yesterday with my girlfriend, we were the only 2 in the theatre.

It was entertaining and a fun time like I expected, she loved it as well and was laughing at a lot of the gore.

I felt it started off kinda slow, it took too long for someone to finally die in my opinion. Also, there were at least 2 good opportunities to show some tit/vagina/ass but they bypassed it and didn't. I hope the DVD has added nudity and maybe some more gore!

I saw a matinee showing of this today and liked it quite a bit. Had some good laughs and some cheap thrills. It's no NotC, but it'll do...
