SLITHER reviews
Just saw Slither... I thought it was really great. It's a very fun movie, with some very gross effects that are well done. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, but isn't a full blown comedy either.
If you like 80's horror films like Night of the Creeps or Return of the Living Dead, I think you'll enjoy this. I was surprised, because I wasn't sure what to expect. It's definitely something i'm gonna own on DVD. I'm not really giving any of it away because I enjoyed going in not knowing very much about it. |
I was at the Slither panel during last summer's Comic-Con and it looked like it'd be a fun film. I've been waiting for it to be released and thought it was gonna come out sooner.
Sounds good and thanks for the info. |
Nathan Fillion+Pam from the Office+creepy critters= I'm sold!

Really looking forward to March 31. James Gunn is one sick mother...I must get that poster.

Yeah, the one thing that confused me in the marketing was that I couldn't really tell if they were aiming at comedy horror or straight up horror. But I'm definitley up for this one. Captain Mal & gore...can't miss with that combo.

Freud...sneak out and go alone if you have to:D
I love the poster and fear they may not use it for the dvd:( I may have to go get a copy of it myself, hehe:D |

I am still shocked a movie like this is going theatrical.
I could have seen it in the 70's/80's, but now??? It's not that I have a problem with this in any way. It's just I was surprised a movie about icky slug things would be going theatrical nowadays. It reminds me of total Svengoulie material, but I would check it out. |
I'm really looking forward to it. As a fan of Troma studios (Gunn's a former employee), this is essentially what would happen if one of their movies got an actual budget.
|
this looks like it will be a hoot. i think Fillion will be the 2nd coming of one of those fun, comedic, action stars that can show a serious side that we could use once again.
|
It's a really fun movie. If "Stay Alive" can do well, then Slither better find it's audience too, because it deserves it way more.
|
anyone find any reviews yet?

The same friend recently saw this flick at Varsity Cinemas, and had the following to say really quick. Keep in mind that he isn't a horror fan though: Just got back from Slither. It was really funny and a fun movie. The parts where it was a straight up horror movie were pretty bleh, as the zombie stuff was stupid and did nothing for me. I'm not really a zombie fan, I hope I don't get banned for saying that. |
I was a little "meh" on this movie at first, but now that I've seen the trailer a few times and read some early reviews, I think I'm going to like this.
|
This has cheesy goodness written all over it.

Positive:
"Gunn doesn't reinvent the wheel but he does tighten its spokes a bit with some terrifying sequences and a witty, deadpan screenplay." -Village Voice "A gleefully nasty and ingeniously twisted horror-comedy." -Variety "James Gunn is one of us. He is a die-hard horror fan that just wants to make a film that horror fans like him want to see, and that is exactly what Slither is." -Horror Channel "Doesn't just embrace the cheesy goofiness of those B-grade horror films from the middle of the last century, it also gives them a big wet sloppy French kiss." -Killer Movie Reviews Negative: "I have to admit to not getting much out of a big budget B movie. B movies are fun because they’re rinky dink." -Film Threat I've been kind of wanting to see this movie since I heard about it (looked like fun), then I saw LolliLove, and now I really want to see the damn thing. |

"It may not be sickly brilliant or twistedly clever, but it's just plain fun. Slither is a good old fashioned gooey, slimy monster movie with a sense of humor."
-- Fred Topel, ABOUT.COM he had me at It! |
"So sue me, sometimes after a day of enjoying Belgian film-festival prizewinners, I like to relax with copious servings of horror-flick slime and a good visual joke involving squids, girls in bathtubs, and overhead cameras." -Entertainment Weekly (Lisa Schwarzbaum) Grade: B+

Wow, it's at 90% now at RT!
Do any of you guys know where I can buy the poster? I've got to pick this one up. http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/5...nesheet3lv.jpg |
Nice to see this one getting mostly positive reviews across the board so far.
$1 says that changes once the more "average" movie critics begin reviewing it through. I was invited to a "late" (9pm) free screening tonight of the flick, but I'm opting to check out a live performance of Rent instead. I'll just go see Slither tomorrow morning. |
I think Slither will settle in at around 75% or so.

what i don't like is that my multi-multi-plex only has 5 showings of this tomorrow. i mean this is a theater that showed "Hostel" on 2 screens and like 10-15 showings for each. this means it will be on one of their smaller stadium theaters, much like "Devil's Rejects". i hate those rooms.
|
Oh I don't care what the score at RT is, but I can't help but root for it to be as high as possible. :)
Yeah, if it lands at around 75% or so then that'll be fantastic for a movie like this. Is it wrong that every time I see the following picture, I see a huge obese woman's naked breast with a big ol' hairy nipple and two crusty warts on the sides? http://ffmedia.ign.com/filmforce/ima...9043530244.jpg |
94% now with 17 reviews. Ebert gave it a  (2 out of 4), tho that hasn't been added in yet.
|
Make that 95% overall and 100% Cream of the Crop with 19 reviews counted so far.
 |
