A few things here. I believe Seagal has just taken the Fred Williamson approach to movie making. He produces low budget films (DTV) using himself as the big name, and rakes in the cash. He fronts the money, he takes the big cut. He stands to make more money off of this than a say a company like Warner putting out a movie in theaters and him just getting payed as an actor and residuals for home video.
Its not like Seagall or Van Damme have ever been known for their "acting" in terms of the arts. There in it for the paychecks...
Stalone just got the short end of the marketing after a flop. He isn't signing up for DTV titles, or cable movies. I think with two sequals to major franchises coming, it could be a comeback or a curtain call. This guy is an old man (when it comes to being an action star) in his own right, so he can hang it up and be done if he wants.
Cuba is hardly in DTV hell at this point, though he could use an upswing. I think he needs to play a villain. The scene in Boyz in the Hood where he gets the rims always makes me want to see him be a real bad ass.
Chuck Norris status as an action star is over for a few reasons. First, he is an old man at this point (again when it comes to being an action star), secondly his personal beliefs (he is a born again Christian) have led him away from alot of what Hollywood had to offer. Not to say that Christians can't be action stars, but I think Chuck Norris takes a dim view to some of the dialouge that is associated with action films(and the more tame titles like sidekicks and the cop dog movie didn't exactly go over well). They guy had a pretty good tv run, which usually doesn't see many action stars coming back on the big screen. With his recent popularity through Conan O' Brien, and the Chuck Norris Facts, he has become a charicature of himself, and I don't think anyone can take him seriously as an action star.
