Which actor will come back from DTV hell?

Which of these B-list actors do you think will re-emerge from Direct to Video features and come back in a A-list movie?

Wesley Snipes
Steven Seagal
Jean Claude Van Damme
Cuba Gooding Jr.
Chuck Norris
Judd Nelson
Eric Roberts

I think Cuba and Snipes have the best shot.

Who do you think is bound for Direct to Video?

My best guess: Paul Walker

Mr. Cinema 02-25-06 06:52 AM

I think Cuba could, given the right material. He has more range that those on the list.

With the success of Eight Below, I'd say Walker will escape the DTV for a few more months.

Quatermass 02-25-06 11:50 AM

I just read today that Steven Seagal is the guest of honor on the Krewe of Orpheus parade on Lundi Gras (fat Monday, the day before Mardi Gras). I doubt it will translate to any A-List movies, though.

Trout 02-25-06 11:57 AM

Have to go with Cuba. He has the most talent.

DeputyDave 02-25-06 12:07 PM

Cuba Jr.
His newest movie "Dirty" is coming out in April on DVD (I think it had a limited release in theaters) and it looks great from the previews.

ScissorPuppy 02-25-06 12:19 PM

Vin Deseil is destinaned to be the greatest DTV actor ever.

While all these guys are doing DTV movies, why not a super showdown between all of them?

Cuba

Since this is really more about actors than specific DVDs I'm moving this to Movie Talk. I thought a poll could be fun too so I added that ;)

gryffinmaster 02-25-06 01:47 PM

Cuba could definitely return from the DTV hell. He's got some terrific talent - just hasn't been given then right source material recently.

TheMovieman 02-25-06 04:16 PM

Went with Cuba Gooding since he has more range than Seagal, Snipes or Van Damme...

BuddyRevell 02-25-06 05:10 PM

I'm a Jean Claude Fan Damme. I hope he makes a come back. He's made some pretty good DTVs.

fumanstan 02-25-06 05:44 PM

Cuba

mndtrp 02-25-06 05:47 PM

Cuba, definately. At least, compared to all of the others listed.

DeanoBKN 02-25-06 06:47 PM

Eric Roberts!

movieking 02-25-06 07:16 PM

Patrick Swayze.

Just kidding, none will ever come back IMO. At least Chuck Norris has an excuse - his age.

xage 02-25-06 07:56 PM

I doubt Van Damme will resurrect from DTV.. after the bloody pulp beating he got from Hell's Angel Chuck Zito at the Scores Strip Club..

Legolas 02-25-06 08:57 PM

I'm surprised Chris Klein isn't already pumping out one DTV title after another.

Ashton Kutcher also deserves to be there, but as long as he's got a fan base (however moderate it may be), he can still star in big studio crappy films.

Where's Dolph Lundgren on that poll? Sly Stallone? Thanks to 24, Kiefer's no longer doing DTV.

DRG 02-25-06 08:59 PM

Since when has Cuba Gooding even been in DTV hell? Granted he's had some turkeys that should have been DTV based on their crummy box office take. And there is a upcoming movie called End Game that looks to be going DTV. But that happens all the time to B and C level stars, if the project distribution just doesn't pan out the right way. Once he has three or more DTV titles in a row then he can start to worry.

DJariya 02-25-06 09:12 PM

Cuba also did a DTV title called " A Murder of Crows" with Tom Berenger a few years ago. End Game is going DTV. His recent flick "Dirty" has very limited theatrical release and is essentially a DTV title.

Rypro 525 02-25-06 09:13 PM

before man on fire, sin city, and domino, you could have also said Mickey Rourke deserved to be on the list as well.

matome 02-25-06 09:15 PM

Cuba and Snipes. No chance at all for the others, especially Seagal. Seems like the guy puts out 2-3 DTV's a year, so he'll never break out of that, especially since he's fat as hell now. You can only trick people so much with body doubles and long coats.

Good Call! He is making a comeback of sorts isn't he? Who'd a thunk it?

Call me sentimental, but I'd like to see Sylvester Stallone make a comeback. Growing up in the 80's, it hurts me to see him churning out DTV drivel. (though I am interested in checking out Eye See You regardless of it's ridiculous title)

DJariya 02-25-06 10:41 PM

Ya know, I totally forgot about Sly. He's done Avenging Angelo and Eye See You aka D-Tox in the DTV genre. I wonder if Rocky Balboa is suppose to be his big comeback? I think Rambo IV is destined for a DTV release.

SeekOnce 02-26-06 12:02 AM

Oh come on. The obvious answer here is Chuck Norris.

Unless you want a roundhouse to the face that is.

ScissorPuppy 02-26-06 12:33 AM

"He's done Avenging Angelo and Eye See You aka D-Tox in the DTV genre"

The thing about both of these is that Sly didn't sign on to these as DTV films, both were released in theaters overseas I think. It was after the get carter flop that warner dropped Angelo DTV, D-Tox was sitting on a shelf so long that DTV was the only way to go not to mention renaming it Eye See You. Even Shade had a limited release. I don't think SLY qualifies as a DTV actor, well not in the sense that Snipes and Segal are, as when they sign the line, they know that the film is going to straight to blockbuster video.

If Sly didn't get Rocky off the ground, he probably would have retired from acting. I think he has too much pride to become a DTV actor.
