Took my little cousin and some of his friends a couple days ago. I don't know what movie Ginster watched, but I loved it. Lots of laughs, Patrick Warburton and James Belushi were great. A lot better than Shark Tales as was mentioned.

So why did they decide to make the wolf into
, complete with
and theme music? Did they ever reach a point where this connection was justified or did they just assign the similarities and let it play out? Was
originally supposed to be the voice of the wolf or something?

I really liked it actually. It was funny, the wolf was hilarious and it actually stuck to reality in some bits (as much as a CG about make believe characters can).
E.g.
(how the hell do you do that spoiler black text thing? The color tag doesn't work)
Hilarious.
The CG could have been better though, guess we've all been spoiled with the Shrek, Final Fantasies, and Toy Stories (not to mention Blizzard).
EDIT: Couldn't get spoiler tag to work, I'm a genius.

I picked this up a few weeks ago. Now, I don't have a fancy projection or sound system, just a Sony 34-in HDTV and a JVC HTiB, but I thought this looked and sounded pretty good.
I'm a school teacher, and this week we've been using the movie for a language arts project on compare and contrast, and point-of-view. Most of my 4th graders had never seen it, and have been loving it.
Basic fairy tale turned on its head, but not crude like some.
Very decent family/kids film with some good laugh-out-loud scenes for the grown-ups.

Watched this on a rental. I laughed quite a bit. I love Patrick Warburton's voice as the wolf. (He was great in Emp's New Groove too.) The Woodsman, Japeth the Goat and of course Twitchy were all hilarious. Granny was kind of annoying. Overall this was very enjoyable. The animation seemed a tad bit crude in several spots, but the story and characters made up for it.

I also don't know what movie ginster was watching... I thought this was a very funny movie. My son loved it as well. The banjo-goat and Twitchy were the funniest parts. And the voices were excellent as well, particularly Warburton, Hathaway and Andy Dick.
I didn't quite understand the Fletch connection, either, but it was pretty funny.

My son is ecstatic that the sequel is finally coming out, lol. I'll have to watch the original soon, so I'm caught up.

I didn't even know a sequel was in production until I saw a TV spot for this last night. My first reaction was the animation looks horrible. It looks like the animation is unfinished. Or maybe something from the early days of CGI.
One shot in particular was the wolf flying through the air on a motorcycle; the lack of detail in the background (and foreground for that matter)is surprisingly bad.

Re: Hoodwinked
I finally saw Hoodwinked! last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The animation was indeed REALLY BAD but the whole film proves that when you've got a good story and funny jokes you can overcome the medium. If the same material was performed as a puppet show I probably would have liked it too.
It's impressive (and important) to know that this was an indie animated film. The shortcomings of the animation are the side-effect of making a film without studio interference. I found Hoodwinked to be vastly better than the awful Shrek films.
The film may have suffered from having its jokes and references being too "inside". The extended Fletch reference was certainly over every single kid’s head and probably 99% of the adults too.
However I did find the whole "Granny is secretly an extreme sports athlete" really stupid and unfunny.

Ha, funny seeing this thread again. I just showed my 14 year daughter (she was 7 when I took her to see it in the theater) the positive post in this thread I gave the film when it first came out. Amazing how time flies by. And talking about the film with her today, we both agree it was great then, and still fun to watch today.
