Finally saw the preview tonight. I will definitely be going to see it. It looks like an awful good action flick. With equal parts of AWFUL and ACTION. Just a bizarre creation.

Plus I love Milla.

Saw a trailer for this. Looks like a really bad movie that I'm planning on enjoying.

I LOVE Milla and I think she's turned into a very cool action star. This movie looks ok and because I like her I'll give it a chance.

BTW, does anyone else keep thinking Selma Blair is the star when you see the poster?

I saw the trailer before Underworld - while it seemed a bit cheesy, it still intrigued me. Plus, it has Milla.

That's funny, I saw the trailer last weekend, and thought "this looks a lot like equilibrium", and here it is, that it's the same director. I'm definitely up for watching this!

Kind of cheesy but I'll still check it out. I wonder how well it will do since Aeon Flux, a similar hot chick with guns in a scifi film, pretty much died at the box office.

People with genetic mutations are out and the company/goverment wants to kill them..

How is this any different than Resident Evil: 3?

Until I saw "Ultraviolet" at the end of the trailer, I didn't think it would be anything but RE:3. Even then I thought it was a sequel with another name.

I'll rent this. Somehow, I doubt it's worth the $9 to see in the theater.

Oh boy! Another 'hot chick in black leather uses CGI and martial arts to beat the crap out of hordes of Special Ops style troops'

There sure haven't been enough of those movies lately!

I dunno, this looks pretty fun (which Aeon Flux definitely did NOT look.) I really like the "shattering" effect they are using with the soldiers. Makes the hits look really hard.

Definitely worth a rental, I think...

Looks to me like a cross between Resident Evil and Fifth Element, with just a splash of the previously-mentioned Aeon Flux for good measure.

So at the very end, when it looks like Violet has won, will Christian Bale suddenly show up and gun-kata her to death?

Fondness of Equilbrium and Milla will make me see this. If not for them I probably wouldn't have touched this with a ten-foot pole.

I think you hit upon something, even from the trailers Aeon Flux looked flat and boring. However, IMO, this one looks different. At least we know that Kurt Wimmer knows how to make action look good on screen. Anyone who suffered through Aeon Flux knows that it had some of the most boring action sequences of recent vintage.

And....It's not screening for critics. Doesn't mean it won't make money, though. This year alone a ton of the #1 films haven't screened for critics (Underworld, When a Stranger Calls, Madea's Family Reunion, maybe more).

I think this one has good chances of being #1, unless there's a huge blockbuster opening up that i'm forgetting about.

It sucks that it's chopped to a PG-13, because the R-rated version apparently has a ton of limbs being chopped off/heads being chopped off in the fight scenes with Violet, but do you think that stuff will make it into the PG-13 cut? Hmmm...

Nah...but maybe we'll get lucky and see it on the R-rated DVD.

Not a blockbuster, but I think the new Richard Donner/Bruce Willis flick 16 BLOCKS is going to beat out Ultraviolet this weekend...the movie definitely looks more Aeon Flux than Underworld, so I'd expect it to perform more like that flick.

This movie and 16 blocks sets up an interesting battle at the box office. the established movie star, Bruce Willis and director richard donner against the no names of ultra violet, but with a pretty cool trailer and small following for milla and equilibrium director. Big budget, problably 70 million or more, against small budget, 30 million or so.
I like donner and willis but the trailers to this movie remind me of firewall with harrison ford, they just leave me cold. Harrision Ford's movie bombed. Ultra violet looks exciting. I would not be shocked if ultra violet pulls off an upset and finishes number one. Silly though to launch 2 action movies on the same weekend in march.

My guess about the DVD: if Ultraviolet is a disappointment, we'll get an unrated version ASAP. If it does well, then Sony will milk us for all we're worth and put out the PG-13 first followed by the unrated about a year or so from now.
