Cook Off The Movie - For Fans of Good Comedy

I just was in LA and was able to watch one of the funniest movies being filmed at the hotel I was staying at. I believe the movie is going to be called Cook Off. I saw some of my favorite comedic actors there.

Wendi McLendon-Covey - Reno 911 Deputy Clementine Johnson

Niecy Nash - Reno 911 Deputy Raineesha Williams

Gary Anthony Williams - Harold and Kumar, Undercover Brother

Deidrich Bader – Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space

Stepehen Root – Office Space, Anchorman, Dodgeball

Jennifer Elise Cox – The Brady Bunch Movie, EdTV, Bewitched

Paul Wilson - Office Space (one of the Bobs), Curb Your Enthusiasm (Andy Portico) and Cheers.

Mo Collins - Mad TV, 40 yr old Virgin

and whole bunch of other amazing actors. I cannot wait for this movie to come out. Just from watching it being filmed, I can tell that this is going to be amazing. I tried to find out when it will be coming out, but the only thing I could confirm was mid 2006. Has anyone else heard of this film? I have a feeling this is going to be a real gem. Which is good, because I have not seen a good comedy in so long.

With that cast, I'm sure it will debut on TBS soon enough

I don't see Lou Diamond Phillips listed in the cast...

The film is a "Best in Show" type mockumentary movie. I am sorry that your favorite actors (Brad Pitt or George Clooney) won't be in it. The film kind of needed people who are actually funny! This movie probably won't appeal to people who's favorite movie is Armageddon.

You don't think Deidrich Bader is funny? To each his own. I personally think that he is hilarious.

Peter Gibbons: What would you do if you had a million dollars?
Lawrence: I'll tell you what I'd do, man, two chicks at the same time, man.
Peter Gibbons: That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time?
Lawrence: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I had a million dollars I could hook that up, cause chicks dig a dude with money.
Peter Gibbons: Well, not all chicks.
Lawrence: Well the kind of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.

What do you mean by shill? Shill usually refers to one who is swindling someone in gambling or a business deal. Are you referring to me? I thought this was called dvdtalk.com, and that is exactly what I am doing talking about a new film that is coming out. I couldn't think of a more appropriate place to talk about something like this.

One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle.American Heritage Dictionary
a decoy who acts as an enthusiastic customer in order to stimulate the participation of others Worldnet
A shill is an associate of a person selling a good or service, who pretends no association and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage other potential customers, unaware of the set-up, to purchase said good or service....

In marketing, shills are often employed to assume the air of satisfied customers and give testimonials as to the merits of a given product. This type of shilling is legal and almost impossible to detect.
Wikipedia
Studios have been known to, in the past, pay people to go to web forums and newsgroups and promote their upcoming films, posing as fans. Again, this is a known method employed by studios. Whether or not any individual member is a shill, or is doing shilling, or is actually genuinely enthusastic about a film is always open to question.

Well I didn't waste the last year and a half posting (300+ posts) on these forums, so I could promote some movie I have no benefit promoting. I am just a huge fan of comedy, and this film has some of my favorite comedic actors. So I suppose that anything RyoHazuki is passionate about is also a possible shill. Hell, anyone of us could be a shill. I believe that the forum rules are that if you are not posting about the subject of the thread then don't post at all. I think we should abide by that. This discussion has already been compromised by certain people's lack of respect.

Yes, that Mike Judge is a funny fellow.

But we're talking about Bader...

It's really good, if a little uneven. Whether or not you liked Stephen Chow's other films, both Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle are on R1 DVD, would help decide whether you'd like this film, although God of Cookery is much less action orientated than those two films.

As for the DVD, it's a Hong Kong all-region DVD which would work on R1 DVD players. Tai-Seng apparently used to import the DVD for sale in the US, but it doesn't seem available that way anymore. Amazon still has a listing though:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/6305161615/

Otherwise, you can order from a Hong Kong retailer. The International Forum has good info on where to order from.

Bader's delivery was fantastic in that scene.
