i can also see Watts getting a nod, mainly because this year doesn't have many big female lead contenders (Witherspoon for "walk the line" Huffman for "transamerica" and thats about it)

and regarding golf, i'll just take it right out of George Carlin's mouth "its like watching flies fuck'

I think it definitely has a built-in audience.

Those who are huge fans of the LOTR Trilogy automatically became Peter Jackson fanboys, and many of them had their sights on King Kong.

I'm sure Universal will push for Watts as well. This is a good year to get one considering the field is weak. Maria Bello got a Globe nomination for Actress, but I think she's being considered Supporting Actress for the Oscar run...at least that's what I've read on a couple of sites.

I do think Kong will get all the tech awards and art direction. I'm not as sure for Cinematography. I don't think it will get editing...that usually goes to the Best Picture winner, but not always.

Of course, the Jackson fans, but not something built-in as say Harry Potter or Narnia or even LOTR. I was mainly talking about the book tie-in aspect.

yeah. I mean, there wasn't any sort of knowledge before hand about this "kong" monkey to really have anyone know about it at all.

That is so right. I mean, I didn't think anyone knew what a King Kong was.

There is a much greater following of the movies I mentioned considering all of the novels written.

If anything, the knowledge of Kong was a negative for many people, as most only know the crappy 70's remake or all those good awful Japanese King Kong vs. Godzilla type movies and ton the original from the 1930's (not that most people today would like it either).

I have now heard from probably dozens of people saying they would go see it if it wasn't so long, I don't think Kong's image has anything to do with it. Kong, though, should have been a summer movie.

Narnia is showing some serious legs. Kong is doing better than I thought it would. But I never imagined Narnia would hold as well as it has.
