At this point why not add in a William Atherton cameo as well?

Well Moranis is happily retired and Atherton is reportedly sick and tired of people yelling "Hey, dickless!" every time he walks down the street, so they may be harder to sign up than Murray was.

Atherton participated in the video game though. So he's certainly not above accepting money to do Ghostbusters stuff.

Sigourney Weaver is in.

I gotta tell you man, it fucking BREAKS MY HEART that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts are all gonna be in a new Ghostbusters movie but will not be playing their original characters. It seems like such a fucking waste. They should have just wrote a "Force Awakens" script that has the original cast handing it off to a new generation of Ghostbusters. One final hurrah ya know. After all the years and YEARS of speculation, its such a huge bummer that we won't even get to see them play the damn characters that everybody loves. Squandered opportunity. Something like this shouldn't upset me so much, but it does. I guess now I'm the 12 year old girl

Can't ignore Variety. The magazine's sources have confirmed that SONY is in the process of developing an animated Ghostbusters film with Ivan Reitman's company Montecito producing. Not much was revealed about the film except that it would likely "follow the famous group as they fight supernatural forces". If the film is in line with canon, we will follow the project until completion!

Maybe that explains why I saw him at the commissary Tuesday.

According to Moranis, he is not retired and turned down the offer to appear in the new Ghostbusters. Moranis:"I hope it's terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?"

Good for him. He shouldn't feel pressured to appear in it if he just doesn't want to.
I do hope he gets more roles, whether on TV or film. He seems like an all-around good guy.

I think it's more about him being picky than not being offered roles. I respect that if he only wants to do projects he feels are worthy of doing but I do wish he'd make a comeback at some point.

Sony Pictures details toy plans for Ghostbusters
Billy Langsworthy
“With Ghostbusters, we have something for everyone, whether you’re a collector or an everyday toy buyer,” said Mark Caplan, the studio’s new senior vice president of global consumer products.
Mark Caplan, Sony Pictures’ new senior vice president of global consumer products, has revealed the firm’s toy plans for big screen properties including Ghostbusters, Get Smurfy and the Jumanji remake.
Mattel has signed a deal to be the global master toy licensee for next year’s Ghostbusters reboot, set to hit screens in July 2016 with an all-female team, and Sony Pictures has shed some light on the slate of planned products, spanning blind bags, board games and action figures.
“Mattel has developed a really broad line of products,” Sony’s Mark Caplan told Licensing.biz's sister site, ToyNews.
“We’re going after collectors with blind bag figures at a very reasonable price point. In each figure pack there’s a piece of a particular character, so if a consumer buys all four, they can assemble a separate ghost.
"Mattel is also doing a board game and six-inch figures of both the classic Ghostbusters and the brand new movie. The firm is developing a new Eco-1 and the collectable characters can fit into the car. Mattel is also creating the Proton Pack. What kid would not want to throw that on?
“Alongside Mattel, we have LEGO on board, Funko doing Pop! Vinyl and Rubie’s is making costumes. It’s expansive. We have something for everyone, whether you’re a collector or an everyday toy buyer.”

So do they really expect that boys are going to want to play with female Ghostbusters action figures? Or that girls will want to play with them? Could happen, I suppose...it'll be interesting to see the reaction at that level.

Re: Ghostbusters - Female reboot (D: Feig, S: McCarthy, Wiig, Jones, McKinnon)
Granted, removing the words "boys" and "girls" won't automatically eradicate years of gender-focused toy marketing but it'll be an interesting experiment. It's cool to think my 6-year-old niece could have female Ghostbusters toys that are actually meant to be exciting and heroic.
That said, the cynic in me knows Mattel will probably have Ghostbusters in the Barbie line too which is a big hazard as far as I'm concerned. I hope someone at Mattel knows to give them the Mad Men treatment rather than giving them proton pack/hair dryer hybrids.
They can hook all the backwards sexist haters into buying the figures too. The whole build-a-figure thing is the ultimate toy scam. I've seen people on toy forums accuse Mattel of ineptitude for releasing Dark Knight Rises figures with a 6-piece build-a-Batsignal when the figures themselves weren't shipped in equal quantities. It's a brilliant move because you're paying for a big hunk of plastic whether you're completing the BAF or not, so they couldn't care less if you throw the useless piece away, though they certainly love it when it drives you collect other figures you don't want. Mix a cool ghost's pieces between classic Ghostbusters and new Ghostbusters and people will buy it, and a sale is a sale whether the buyer goes online and complains about it or not.

The toys will be trading on the popularity of the 1984 Ghostbusters. The movie will re-awaken interest in the whole Ghostbusters brand, not just the new movie.
Also, I hate shit like this:

Did they really do away with gender specific toy aisles though? I've been thru Target lately, and the only difference is the elimination of pink and blue peg board, in favor of wood tones in every aisle. The aisles are still very much separated along traditional gender lines, and there's still some very pink aisles, just from the toy boxes contained within them.

Yeah, boy toys and girl toys are still very much separated at Target, they now just look like every other aisle and don't say "Boys" or "Girls"

They've even separated out the girl LEGO from the rest.
