Because women as leads = feminist takeover? Was the original thought to be a chauvinist takeover?

Is it really that scary to have women in lead roles?

No, because the fact that this is being remade specifically with all-female leads now reeks of feminism. That's why.

No, it's not scary. But it's unnecessary and about as ridiculous as an all male remake of "Fried Green Tomatoes" or "9 to 5." Bet those would go over well.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with how feminism is being used here.

What's funny is McCarthy gets complimented for physical comedy, Spy wasn't really funny until Rose Byrne showed up and they're throwing verbal daggers at one another. To their credit, it was mostly the delivery by the two actresses that made it.

The first was made with all-male leads. What did that reek of?

No, it's not scary. But it's unnecessary and about as ridiculous as an all male remake of "Fried Green Tomatoes" or "9 to 5." Bet those would go over well.
What is ridiculous about those ideas? One could argue that Horrible Bosses was pretty much an all-male remake of 9 to 5. Did that "reek" of anything?

Giant sloars! Many Shubs and Zulls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day, I can tell you!

It didn't reek of anything. This is a remake of what was essentially a guy comedy from the '80s with an all female cast, because, well, girl power. It's a gimmick. Do you think the studio execs sat down and truly believed this cast they assembled was far superior to any they could have assembled with male characters?

Yes, it reeked of "shitty movie." There is no comparing that crude shitfest to a classic from the early '80s.

Oh please. The original is not some sacred film beyond reboot/sequel.

They should remake Jaws with 3 women as the leads. I'd love to read those discussions here.

It's wholly unnecessary, that's why. There is no intention of making the best film possible. The whole intent is to be as politically correct as possible. Next up we'll have an all white remake of "Boyz N the Hood." Maybe we can have a remake of "Taxi Driver" with a female lead. Because, you know, women and men are exactly alike, and their roles are entirely interchangeable.

How short is the rest of the cast or how fucking tall is Jones?

Their suits look fine. Just most of that cast and the director... oooooof.

Boyz N the Hood is specifically about race. Does the gender matter when it comes to busting ghosts?

If they were remaking Taxi Driver, why would a female lead not work? Again, anything that has to be specifically male about that role?

I would argue that unless the part in the film is specifically about gender, roles are more or less interchangeable. Hollywood is slowly figuring that out.

I actually really think that those stripes detract from the suits. They just look awful.

Yeah... but it's Sony. It could have gone worse w/ character costume designs...

Yeah, the fact that the lead is a psychologically damaged Vietnam war vet.

So the new one is a psychologically damaged Iraq war vet.

Is this version of Ghostbusters set in the 80s when women weren't allowed to fight the supernatural?

Re: Ghostbusters - Female reboot (D: Feig, S: McCarthy, Wiig, Jones, McKinnon)

I'm sure most of the people here have some sexism about the gender swap. I still look at it as a gimmick nature to it cuz that's all that they did so far. And apparently it was a big deal for them to do that. Whatever.

I see "feminism" brought up and I don't think many people here really get what that is and how this film, again based on the credits involved w/ the cast and director, hasn't "scream" that... yet.

I said nothing about women being allowed or not allowed to do anything. Where did you get that from?

I would be nice if the logo on the car wasn't interrupted by the trim on the car. Paint the logo over it!

Also, people are raving over these pics: http://zap2it.com/2015/07/female-gho...-photo-ecto-1/

Not sure why we're not raving in here too.

ALL FILMS ARE WHOLLY UNNECESSARY. But they make them anyway. How does this film affect you personally? I wouldn't care if they made an all white boyz n da hood.

You seriously don't get why some Women and Girls would think this is cool?

Whether it affects me personally has nothing to do with the fact that I think it's fucking idiotic.

Yeah, I guess I agree. They'll probably be just as excited for the female "Scarface" that is sure to begin production too.

If Jones is who I think she is she's funny as fuck. I hope they make this film Rated R. I believe she was in Top Five with Chris Rock and had me rollin' trashing Tracy Morgan.
