From his IMDb bio:

Named as a communist by director Edward Dmytryk for the HUAC in 1952. This caused Dassin to be blacklisted and forced him to move to France where he became more famous and successful than he ever was in the United States.

His son, Joe Dassin (1938-1980), became one of France's most popular singers, with hits such as "Bip Bip", "L'Eté Indien" and "Aux Champs-Èlysées."

The Piano Teacher, while a fine film, is set in Vienna.

Whereas The Pianist, shot in Poland, is a Polish film directed by a Frenchman, Roman Polanski being a French citizen by birth.

Recently i saw Brotherhood of the wolf...
It's quite different being an eighteenth centery epic warewolf movie!
I would say this film is enjoyable.
