I'm pleased to see that, though FARGO is leading, as I knew would be the case, THE BIG LEBOWSKI certainly hasn't been left in the dust. Still wish I had more feedback on what makes FARGO so allegedly great, but alas, no...

For one thing, I can't think of a more striking combination of tragedy, tender drama and pitch-black humor.

Miller's Crossing
The Big Lebowski
Fargo

As a side note, I never saw Raising Arizona, so I've got my next blind buy.

I think I enjoyed Fargo more, but I haven't seen them both for a while.

And see, as I mentioned before, this combination didn't work for me, personally. It can be done, and it's divine when it's pulled off, but in FARGO, the mix seemed forced and awkward. If the attempts at comedy had been pulled and Francis McDormand had reigned her deer-in-headlights portrayal of the cop, maybe that would have made the difference...I don't know...

Fargo is a top notch film, but Lebowski is so damn rewatchable.

It's tough to compare them, really, because they are different types of movies. The Coens basically make two types of movies: dramas with some quirky comedy mixed in, and quirky comedies with a little drama mixed in. Fargo belongs to the former and The Big Lebowski to the latter.

Of the two, though, The Big Lebowski is my favorite Coen "Comedy" while Fargo isn't my favorite Coen "Drama" (Miller's Crossing has that position), so I'll vote for TBL based on that reason alone.

Another vote for Miller's Crossing, my personal favorite followed by Blood Simple. Between Fargo and Lebowski, I'm going to vote for the Dude because it is so damn funny. I love Fargo but the Dude Abides.

I never in my wildest dreams imagined it would stay that way (or ever happen in the first place), but just seeing it for a fleeting moment was enough...

IMO, Miller's Crossing is EASILY the best Coen film, my favorite mob film of all time, and one of my top 10 films of the 1990s.

AS for this poll, I voted for Fargo.

I'm going with Lebowski...too many classic moments not to pick it. That said, Fargo is a classic as well...and to add fuel to the fire, my favourite Coen flick is probably O Brother.

I love all the nods to Millers Crossing, Barton Fink, Crossing Arizona, etc. I thought the poll question was pretty clear. Maybe I read it wrong, Fargo or Lebowski? No? I'm confused.

Raising AZ and OBWAT are my 2 favorite Coen comedies. We have shown OBWAT to more guests than any other film and have it has always been a big hit.

Oh, and my least favorite (that I have seen) is The Man Who Wasn't There. Holy sleepfest.

I voted Fargo. Big Lebowski is a cult favorite, especially on DVDTalk, so it's no suprise to me that it is holding it's own against the more critically acclaimed Fargo. I will also assert that many of the same people who love Office Space are Lebowski fans. As such, there is probably an age demographic at work - to wit: 20-something males (hence it's strong showing on DVDTalk).

Oh, and for the OP - here's some reviews ( Ebert Acquarello) that explain Fargo's appeal and one that does a little compare and contrast.
