They are filming it now...apparently part of a new "trilogy" Please don't let this totally suck...partially I can live with...but not totally. David Abramovitz, who was responsible for the majority of the scripts on the series is writing this...so maybe there is hope...

i love the entire "highlander" world...and duncan kicks ass...so ill watch it...but i agree i hope it isnt "Highlander: Cheesefest"

Wow! This project still exists? I wonder how much of the previous films they'll ignore this time. ;)

But if Adrian Paul is back, given his comments after his experience in Highlander: Endgame, I guess he's getting creative control this time. That's good news. :banana:

Looking at the synopsis it sorta seems like it takes place after the series and not after Highlander: Endgame.

They should of stopped after 1

I agree about a reboot but, if done well, this new trilogy might actually be good. Besides, it's not like they have to worry too much about continuity given this series track record.

Sounds kind of like what they had wanted to do w/ the series but decided not to. One of the commentaries or making of features mentioned something about wanting to turn it into a post apocalyptic setting.

Unless Michael Madsen was to replace Adrian Paul as Duncan MacLeod, I guess it's a good thing Joel Soisson (the writter of Highlander: Endgame) is no longer working on this film. I do wonder if Peter Briggs' script will surface anywhere. His writing has always been very ambitious.

Yeah, the apocalyptic setting plot point worked really well with the second Highlander movie.


As for Highlander continuity, what continuity? The only way I could watch the sunsequent Highlander movies and TV series was to consider them as some sort of "alternate universe" or "alternate timeline" versions that split off from the original story.

Really, how could they be anything else? (Besides the obvious - bad writing)

In the original it is specifically mentioned that the few remaining immortals would be compelled to travel to a faraway land (New York) and battle until only one was left to collect "the Prize." Which was Connor.

The TV series gave us a few hundred immortals all over the world. And those are just the ones actually shown, if not killed, over the course of the show's modern day timeline. What about all those others, not shown on the series, that the Watchers were watching? There must have been thousands. There were certainly so many the Watchers required a computer database to keep track of them. And just how many Watchers were there? Over the course of the show there always seemed to be several for each immortal.

At any rate, it seemed obvious that the events of the TV series occured sometime prior to the modern day conclusion of the original movie. This certainly gave the TV series a tragic undertone as you knew Duncan's inevitable fate. Probably at the sword of the Kurgan.

This was so obvious, I almost didn't start watching the series. I didn't want to invest any personal time on a continuous basis, in watching a show that seemed to have "downer" written all over it.

No Christopher Lambert, no 10 bucks from me!

I agree with your views on the movies (I too view them as alternate versions of the same story) but, had you watched the series, you'd know it has zero continuity with the ending of the first movie since Dawson mentions that Connor killed the Kurgan and the show took place in the 90's. The Gathering in the first film concluded in 1985.

Thus the series is also an alternate reality and Highlander: Engame is another splinter story merging elements from the first film with the series but contradicting both.

As for Lambert, I'd love if he returned but he looked godawful in Highlander: Endgame (although he looked just fine in subsequent interviews :shrug: ). If they ever reboot the series or decide to recast Connor in this new trilogy, I vote for Thomas Jane as a new Connor MacLeod.

God, the only way I would watch this would be if they PROMISED me that Christopher Lambert was in NO way involved. If there is a worse actor out there, I haven't seen him. I thought the movies sucked in every way imaginable. Thank god the TV series came along and turned the Highlander mythology into something watchable. If this project has Adrian Paul involved and focuses on Duncan McLeod, I would definitely be interested. He is the definitive Highlander for me.

the original Highlander is one of my fave movies of all time. The sequels have been horrible (especially 2) and the series has been ruined. It would be better if they did a 'do over' like with Batman Begins. This way they could start from the beginning with battles of different immortals over the centuries and concluding with the prize in the final chapter.

Well apparently filming has wrapped and it's currently being edited to be released sometime this year.

Over at the official message board, it's been mentioned that the writers were forbidden from including Connor (even in flashbacks), this new film is a sequel to Endgame (would be the first time any of the sequels acknowledges a previous sequel, though it will still obviously contradict the first film and the other sequels and series), and it takes place in the near future (but not a Highlander 2: The Quickening type future setting).

From what I've seen and read it looks promising, but that's what I thought about Endgame.

Any release date yet?

Glancing over the "official" board, apparently it's anywhere from February-May. I don't see this going to theaters though. I'd be happy with a decent dvd release.

I was surprised to find a thread on Highlander: The Source...I was even more surprised to find out that I started it...my mind is going Dave.

I have hopes for this...it seems like they are using Abromowitz's abandoned plot for season 6 of Highlander...

I'm looking forward to this - you can even count me in to the small minority who like Endgame. At the very worst, it introduced me to Donnie Yen.

Really really not what I would consider a trailer. Really weird.

I need more of a trailer that lays out the plot (even though I read it on the web).

Concerned that this will be too much like HL2. Hopefully not though.
