New Line says that it wants the fans to see it first, since the film is for them, not the critics.
I like that, but then I hate critics and don't give a damn what they think, so having them lose an opportunity to watch a movie for free and then trash it is fine by me.

New Line knows the buzz around this film and expects it to open big. They're not taking any chances to let critics possibly lower the numbers a bit.

Someone should create a list of all the excuses studios give when they won't screen the film for critics. I swear each movie has a different reason, and each one makes me laugh. None of the reasons actually mention the truth - "This movie is crap and we're afraid the critics will alert the public of this fact, thereby hurting our opening weekend."

New Line not screening for press and keeping footage on lockdown pretty much says to the world: THIS IS AN AWFUL FILM. Camp or not, there's a reason the studio is keeping their cards close on this flick. They want to cash in hard on the free publicity/sloppy media blowjobs SNAKES is getting from the day old hipster hype
All along the hype for this film is because of how silly/stupid people thought the film would be.
I've seen movies that weren't screened for the press that I enjoyed. Usually the movies don't go on to win any awards, but I have still liked some of them. And just a guess, I don't think this movie will win any awards, but it may be dumb fun. Maybe not, guess we'll all have to wait for August 18th.

No matter what, it's still damn cool.
Added bonus? Use the number of the person you are calling, it'll freak 'em out when their number is the one displayed o the caller-ID.

I honestly thought this was all a big joke until I saw the trailer on tv a couple of nights ago - unreal, who's releasing this again? New Line? Well, whatever studio it is, they're definitely telling us to shut up and enjoy their dumb movie and what the hell, why not?

There seems to be a new tradition of having an annual, mid-budget ($30m) creature feature in August, New Line is up this year, and playing up the hamfisted goodness of it all, unlike the last few (The Cave, Anacondas).

Tonight I put together Snakes On A Plane and watched it.
It feels like they tried to make the movie straight, then halfway through shooting, decide to make it funny. The result is a film with hilariously bad tension/action sequences, but dull jokes - it's fun to watch the film fail when they're being serious, but most times they try to be funny, it's boring.
And yes, Samuel L Jackson does in fact say "enough is enough! I've had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane". To ensure you don't forget what might have been an amusing line, it is repeated twice during the end credits in different songs.
So yes, it has its moments, but nothing you'd feel comfortable spending $9 for. I bet it would play better with a packed crowd, however.
