This movie looks cheesy as hell to me...i don't understand why so many people are talking about how many tickets they are buying, how many people are going with, how many times they will see this movie etc...people need to get a life!

If your definition of "cheesy" is a well-written, intelligent science fiction movie, then yes, this baby is as cheesy as hell. Forgive us for being so vocal...it's just so rare to see a Hollywood release that's WORTH paying money to see.

I saw a 1:20 pm show on Friday afternoon, and there were more people there than I usually see in an early matinee on a weekday.....

I certainly understand why some people wouldn't like this movie. But, this movie is far from cheesy. I'm not sure I even see how anyone can perceive it as such.

How can this be with the weekend not over yet?
Edit--Well never mind. This was answered in the TV Firefly thread (they estimate Sundays numbers based on Friday/Saturday's).

Just got back, and think it was so much better than many recent big budget scifi movies. My sister, who was not a fan before, loved it too.

Saw it in Portland, OR, with four family members. Friday 7:45 PM showing looked to be close to sold out (~300 seat theater).

I thought the movie was much better than I expected and it seemed to be pretty accessible to someone who hadn't seen Firefly (unlike me). $10 million for the opening weekend is a disappointment. It's a better movie than that IMHO.

What's interesting is that if you do the math, Serenity pretty much sold a ticket to everyone who bought the series on DVD. About one million were sold, so $10/ticket X 1 million= $10 million for the weekend. I remember thinking about that when I read how much the DVD sold and thinking: "That really won't open it that big, but it is probably what's guaranteed."

But you've got to keep in mind that alot of people weren't paying $10. I personally payed $6 on account of my being a student.

My wife and I saw it today. The $7 "bargain" matinee. This was one of the few times in a world with way overinflated movie ticket prices that we both felt like we got our money's worth.

Serenity is a GREAT movie. Period.

If you haven't seen it, GO! You'll thank me (and everyone else who has recommended it) later. Trust me.

My wife may have actually liked it more than I did - and I loved it!

This movie kicked ass! Will probably go see it again this weekend.

What the fuck is up with you people? You come into a thread about a movie that you're not interested in seeing based on a cool show you never saw to bag on people that are excited about seeing it? Internet nerds that need to get a life?? Hello, pot, this is kettle. YOU'RE BLACK. Why don't you stop threadcrapping and stay out of threads you're not really interested in contributing to?

Whew. Guess I can keep my sig. It actually did better than I expected it to do but I predict a strong dropoff next week.

Boy, what a disappointing B.O. weekend! Flightplan #1 again? Serenity only 10m? My estimate was way too high. The movie was terrific. Exceeded all my expectations.

I'm hoping that positive word of mouth will sway more moviegoers to check it out this coming weekend.

Obviously you have never had passion for something that you wanted to succeed going in as the underdog.

Glad it kicked Alba's "butt" too.

To play devil's advocate. This isn't the main Serenity thread, but rather a poll thread welcoming opionions from both side.

Nope, I think everybody kept their pledge. Some moreso than others. They just overestimated their own numbers.

I saw it twice this weekend. I don't think there's anything to be disappointed of. Hell, it was us, the fans, that got this movie made. And even if they don't green light a sequel, there are more mediums to tell the story through. My pick is an ongoing comic books written by Joss. Look at how well written the Astonishing X-Men books are.
