You should add one for "I'll see it several times."

Wow, lots of hostility in here. Well, I guess if people can be passionate about something, there are others just as passionate in the other direction.

Giles

so can a non-fan of the tv series enjoy the movie?
Absolutely. If you watched the series in proper order and didn't like it, you probably won't like the movie, because it's the same tone and style, just on a larger scale. However, if you've never seen the show or only have a passing awareness of it, you won't be lost at all with the film. Fans will enjoy it more, because there are some subtle (and some obvious) nods to the show, but largely the film stands on its own, and it's very accessible to new viewers. It's fun, it's witty, it's clever, and it's surprisingly unexpected. There should be no reason to avoid this for fear of not being able to follow along.

Two tickets to Into the Blue please.
I'm thinking of going for those two + A History of Violence tomorrow. I have to figure out what order to see them in.

As opposed to being surprisingly expected, or predictably unexpected.

Meh. I'll throw my support for Into the Blue.

I love listening to the radio ads that talk about the pre screenings to sold out audiences. Uh yeah, sell out shows made up of fans of a cencelled tv show that see it 5 or 6 times doesn't say much to me. It's like if Kevin Smith did secret screenings of the next Clerks, sure.. Kevin Smith fans will sell out those shows, but will everyone else go see it?

Yep. I thought about that when I typed it, but the phrasing is correct. It is surprisingly unexpected.

and yet according to Scott Shelton, Into the Blue is even worse than 'Stealth' (in his opinion) - oh brother, I know I'm gonna get dragged to this...

thankfully there's a bunch of new release coming out Friday
- Mirrormask
- Keane
- Duma (is this in 'limited' release?)
- Oliver Twist
- Three Outlaw Samurai (revival)

With the exception of Oliver Twist (which is expanding this weekend), all of those are films are in limited release. Which sucks, because I really want to see Mirrormask.

Yeah, it's internet virgins vs. internet virgins, which is quite common on this board. I don't know why half these people on the thread have such hostility towards a film they've never seen... especially since they're making their comments on an internet message board. If you're going to knock something, at least see it before you knock it.

Agreed, all you nay-sayers...go SEE this movie, then come back and knock it.

I don't see people knocking the film or being hostile...I just see a few people who aren't interested. What's wrong with that?

Screw both of those movies. I'm going to see A History of Violence.

haha, well I'm gonna baffle you guys and go see BOTH Into the Blue (free screening tonight, no I wouldn't normally pay to see this) and Serenity (Saturday, gladly pay to go see). So nyah!

My plan:

Into the Blue: free screening tonight. Why yes, I'll stare at Jessica Alba in a bikini for one and a half hours for no charge! Otherwise I wouldn't touch this trash. If they don't do their "advance" showings until one or two nights before the movie opens, it's not a good sign of quality.

Serenity: late show tomorrow night

History of Violence: Sunday afternoon

I'll see MirrorMask before Serenity. Though that's because I've already seen it more times than I can remember.

Why not go rent some porn and be done with it?

I will be at Serenity on Saturday for sure.

You know what burns me? People who say stuff like Serenity is too far fetched and unrealistic for them and pick apart any deficincies in it but then turn around and gobble up stuff that is just as far fetched like Flightplan or Into the Blue but be more forgiving of it because it takes place in the "real world" setting.

What is the deal with this movie? Why do the fanboys want this to be a success so bad? The show isn't coming back. Buffy and Angel aren't coming back. Joss Whedon isn't gonna start hanging out with you. Many of you haven't even seen it. Sometimes a good movie doesn't make much money. I don't see what makes Serenity better than any other low-performing flick.

Because maybe we'd like to see more Firefly movies? If this one does well, they could make more. That's what Jewel and Summer said at the screening I went to last night.

Did they kiss each other per chance?
