Has anybody seen Emily? The reviews I read made it sound a lot less like a horror flick than the ads do. Wonder if there's going to be some mighty disappointed audiences for it?

The movie's more of a courtroom drama, with some horror-ish flashback. No one in the packed house I saw it in seemed to mind.

The fall movie season launches this weekend with a thriller and a comedy neither of which cost much to produce -- nor are they expected to break any records at the box office. Sony's Screen Gems The Exorcism of Emily Rose is expected to sell the most tickets -- between $12 million and $15 million worth, according to box office analysts

Looks like they were a little off.

When I was hanging out with my talent agent friend back in July, I mentioned how I had some interest in seeing the film and she told me how she already saw it. She briefly described it in these few words:

"Scariest............... court room drama, ever."

You do not get that vibe from any of the promotional material.

You bet your sweet ass they didn't mention the courtroom material in the marketing. This one of the bigger "marketing fraud" titles of the year.

...but it worked, sadly.

Ebert and Roeper said that it was indeed courtroom drama w/ some scary moments from Emily's story thrown in here and there. But they both liked it a lot. They said Tom Wilkinson was excellent.

The Man was not "the man" at the box office. I was actually thinking about going to see it this weekend. Guess it would not have been that busy.

The TV Trailers I saw all showed some courtroom scenes. I clearly remember the one scene where the lawyer says "Why didn't you treat her?" and the doctor says "There's no cure for the Devil" or something like that. I'd heard months ago though that it was supposed to be like 50/50 on the courtroom scenes vs. possession scenes so I already knew what to expect.

I was hoping that The Constant Gardner would do better, people need to go out and see this film. It's the best of the year IMHO.
