I've also got Paul Feig's books on the way to me, thanks to the library.

I also thought the ending was weird but I really couldnt think of a way to end it that woulnt be predictable, so they chose to do it on high note that was unique so that should be commended.
(They'll probably have a bunch of different endings on the dvd anyway)
Was a lot raunchier than I expected but it was very smart and sentimental.
Glad it caught the Wedding Crasher audience since it did so well. Wouldve thought the title would turn people off but word of mouth was positive and I'd say it's the first time the #1 movie was you know, actually good.
Seen alot of people from Undeclared or Anchorman, some mentioned the toesucking girl, but also
good stuff

I watched this last night and didn't think it was all that funny. Not laugh out loud funny. The first half was slow. Like they were trying too hard to be funny. I kept waiting for some hilarious scenes, but only had a few chuckles. The second half is much better. I think the movie works better as a romantic comedy rather than something along the lines of Old School, which is how the movie was marketed. The first half tries to make you laugh at the fact that he is in indeed a 40 year old virgin, but then in the second half, you start to feel sorry for the guy. It just seemed like 2 different movies. I watched the unrated version, which was way too long. The first half is them trying every kind of crude humor they could think of and the second half was just the opposite. I guess that was just the transition of the film.
It was an okay movie, but not enough laughs.
I'll watch it again later to see if I like the first half any better, because that was the weakest part of the movie for me.

I'm going to be watching it with a few friends tonight. I loved it in the theatre and thought the only problem with the only problem was the length. Wonder how the 17 minutes will affect this. Has anyone watched their copy yet who saw it in the theatres? Reminds me of a joke Kevin Smith had about the first cut of Mallrats, "A three hour movie about a mall can work!"

I disagree with you, my friend. This is one of the best comedies from the last 10 years IMO... But: to each his own!

There are some additions that are funny, but they throw off the film's pacing big time. The seventeen minutes should've been in the DVD's supplements, not in a recut of the film.

It's a shame they didn't include the theatrical cut on this DVD, seamless branching exists for a reason.
I loved the theatrical release and was looking foward to the DVD, but the comments on the extra minutes have me worried.

First 1/2 is overdone and spotty. 3rd quarter seems to dig in and get fun. last 1/4 was a mess.
I'd heard so many great reviews on this I thought it was a no-brainer, and indeed, it was.

I thought the movie was great. Having not seen it in theaters, I didn't find the unrated version unacceptable. I loved the interaction between the friends, and found almost the entire movie realistic. Maybe that's helping the movie get good reviews.
I'll definately recommend it to people who haven't seen it yet, assuming there are still some out there.

I want some fuckin' FRENCH TOAST...
I thought this movie was great, I've only seen the unrated version...but it's great none the less, soo many memorable lines. This and Wedding Crashers were my fav comedies to come out last year.

In case anyone doesn't know, back on January 24th, the widescreen rated version was released on DVD.

The Unrated DVD has the following extras not on the R-Rated DVD:
- Andy's Fantasies: Two deleted fantasy sequences of what Andy visualizes while trying to masturbate. Another fantasy sequence is actually re-intergrated into the Unrated version of the film.
- My Dinner with Stormy: A short extra where Seth wines and dines porn actress Stormy, who appears in the porno Andy watches, as well as two of the fantasy sequences.
The R-Rated DVD has the following extra not on the Unrated DVD:
- 1970's Sex Ed film: I assume the title says it all, as I haven't seen this extra myself.
Edit: Also, I don't know what the actual extras on the WS R-Rated DVD are. The info above is from comparing the extras on the WS and FF Unrated to the FF R-Rated. I'm assuming the WS R-Rated will have the same extras as the FF R-Rated DVD.

So, is the R-Rated Theatrical Widescreen version only officially sold online, such as at Amazon.com? I haven't seen it in any stores...And can someone be sure that this widescreen version sold at Amazon is actually the superior R-Rated theatrical version? I mean this is definite that an anamorphic widescreen R-rated theatrical version exists, right?

I've never seen the WS R-rated version in a store. I stopped looking a while ago though. Most of the online retailers do seem to have it listed along with the WS Unrated and the FS R-rated, so it's real. Of course, someone lent me the unrated version and I found out that my favorite character was pretty much all cut out of the R-rated version so go figure.

I watched this movie recently not expecting much from it and was very pleasantly surprised at how funny it was, how many characters were so lol funny, and the tone of the movie was very realistic and refreshing (not painting Andy as a total loser).
There's an extremely funny deleted scene on the unrated version with Andy singing in a Karaoke nightclub that had me in stitches. One of the best deleted scenes I've ever seen.

I waited until DVD to catch the film, and after viewing the Unrated Extended version, I have to say that it's way overrated. I have nothing against crude jokes or raunchy humor, but this movie bored me with its obvious gags, over-the-top conduct and predictable plot.
Maybe the added scenes ruin the pacing and popularity of the original. Maybe I'm just too old for this s--t. But I won't be watching this movie again.
