Nope. Doesn't suck.

I'm 34 and male and virgin.

I haven't seent the movie, but I love Freaks and Geeks, which I have on DVD.

The movie is true to life in that the virgin in the movie is a genuinly nice, sweet guy.

I've never been on a date or had a girlfriend. The only reason that any woman has ever given for rejecting me is, "You're a really nice guy."

And I'm always hearing women say stuff like, "My boyfriend is such a jerk! I've been dating him for 3 years, and he's treated me horribly the whole time."

The existence and popularity of this movie is good because it validates what I've known for many years: women choose to reject the nice guys because the women would rather go out with the jerks. This movie is popular because it's realistic and believable. If the 40 year old virgin in the movie had been a jerk instead of a nice guy, no one would have found the movie to be credible.

Wow, I haven't seen it yet but I heard this old fart movie reviewer I hear all the time on the radio say "it's the best of the year".

I guess I gotta go see it...

I agree 100% - I really liked how Carrell didn't make Andy some Pee Wee Herman-esque freak. He's eccentric, definitely, and a bit underdeveloped emotionally, but he's realistic. I like Carrell in 'The Daily Show' and his movie roles before but never thought much of him as an "ACTOR," but after this I really have raised my estimation of his talents. It's a great performance.

Just got back from a showing, top-notch all the way around. Audience was really digging it with a ton of laugh-out loud moments. I know some people think it is a bit long, but it really did not seem like almost 2 hours to me. Can't wait to see a DVD of this, have got imagine there were a ton of deleted scenes and bloopers.

Loved the movie, and would highly recommend it.

I did have a couple of problems with it but they were definitely not enough to make me not enjoy the movie.

Unfortunately, Andy was a little too close to me for my liking. I went to see it with my wife and she cracked up a couple of times because some of the things he was saying I've actually said before like (spoilered for no good reason):

Spoiler:
"Don't take it out of the packaging! It loses its value!"

Very funny movie.. Didn't realize until I got home that the co-worker friend was from Undeclared... I was really surprised (in a good way) how some of the jokes were really over the top and graphic..

I found this movie so much more funny than Wedding Crashers - by a lot. I agree with you that is has heart mostly from Catherine Keener's Trish. This movie had a better cast and chemistry than Wedding Crasher's - this film also had a better rhythm in keeping the laughs consistent - I found the first 20 minutes of Wedding Crashers funny, the rest was stupid, here the comedy never faulters.

the only one sketch that felt forced OTT and didn't seem to have a resolution was when Andy is taking the blame for Jay and is being crude with Jay's wife - I felt that scene seemed slightly out of character for Andy

by the way, did anyone think the girl that played Paul Rudd's ex was an odd casting choice?

no... it's great to see diverse multi cultural casting.

the world isn't all black and white.

no shit. I just thought it was strange since she was also a bit heavy (which was more of what I was referring to). I have no problem whatsoever with casting whomever they want and even found it a bit refreshing to see not a cookie-cutter blonde.

yeah, I didn't mean to be rude or anything. sorry if it came off that way. I didn't want to seem like I had a problem with the race thing or as if I thought it was strange or wrong.

all is good

I saw it today and thought it was great. Were the white lines on Andy's sheets glow in the dark ?

I just saw it. I liked it alot. I agree that it has lotsa heart and great laughs. I still like Wedding Crashers a bit more but "40" was still good.

The pissed off daughter....
The freak momma bookstore girl...

Also, I wish "Gina" had more of a role in this movie.

I'm all for different races fucking each other but fat or thin, that chick was simply not that great looking. In fact she was ugly.

They coulda picked a hotter Indian babe.

I think that was the point of the scene - you've been hearing about Rudd's girlfriend the whole movie, and most people will build a mental image just from him talking about her. The joke is that she's nothing at all like most of us would have pictured her, so it's a fun little way of playing with unconscious stereotyping (not in a negative way, just in a "gee, I thought his girlfriend was white, thin and blonde way"). I thought it was one of the smartest moments in the movie.

Yeah, that and the erection bit.

Great movie. I haven't laughed that much since Team America. Certainly the best comedy I've seen in a while.

Pretty funny movie. I think it may have been hyped up for me a bit too much though but still hilarious. The action figure bit was great.

This is the first movie in a long time that I've actually gone back to the theatre for a second viewing for. I can't wait for the DVD. So many great scenes...

I agree this and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" have been the only 2005 Films I'd like to own on DVD.

Loved it. Hopefully the big turn out for this film will help out the Office when it returns next month.
