Shit! Joaquin was even ugly as a kid. -ohbfrank- Even Brian Peppers, the Zombie Sex offender, had a slight childhood cuteness in his old pictures.

I was just about to post that! I was watching this movie a couple weekends ago and recognized her.

I was also going to mention Phoenix in Space Camp.

Also, Elijah Wood is in Back to the Future 2 for a couple seconds in Cafe 80's.

Brent L 07-27-05 12:56 PM

Gary Oldman as O.W. Grant in Interstate 60.

For the love of God, all of you here should buy and watch that movie! :)

Gary Oldman is in a ton of movies where I didn't know it was him when I first saw it. He's one of the best character actors today, as well as one of the best actors period.

DOOD! The Dwarf in Lord of the Rings is that guy from Sliders!

Geofferson 07-27-05 01:16 PM

A young Nick Stahl in Mel Gibson's, The Man Without a Face.

Went back and watched Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2.

In the first one, the waiter that gives Eddie Murphy the bananas to put in the cops tail pipe is Damon Wayans.

In the second, the parking attendant at Hugh Heffner's mansion is Chris Rock.

In Three Men and a Baby, Dave Foley of Newsradio plays the grocery store clerk and Colin Quinn plays the street vendor.

I know, I know. But that's what went through my head with I first made the connection. And "Sliders" is not a way of belittling his career in any way - I like that show. Watched it all through it's original airings.

John Rhys-Davies is his name. Played supporting characters in lots of movies. But I probably watched Fellowship ten times (six in theaters, I do remember that), and I didn't really recognize him till The Two Towers. You can't blame me. Gimli is just hair and armor.

Big Boy Laroux 07-27-05 06:36 PM

first thing that came to me was donnie wahlberg in The Sixth Sense.

When i saw his name in the credits, I was like "what part did he play?" had to watch it again to recognize him.

sauce07 07-27-05 07:20 PM

wasn't it Glen Close who got put in the boo box in Hook?

Oded Fehr?

dom56 07-28-05 09:46 AM

In Tron did'nt know that the guy who duel with Jeff Bridges was Peter Jurasik who played Londo Mollari in the popular sci-fi show Babylon 5.

DealMan 07-28-05 05:42 PM

Jeff Goldblum as one of the rapists in Death Wish

And I didn't realize that the Scarecrow from Batman Begins was the lead from 28 Days Later.

Speaking of Tron, I didn't know that Bram played Billy The Kid in a certain bodacious movie.

Tarantino 07-28-05 06:31 PM

I didn't realize the first time I saw it that Bob Odenkirk was 'Porno Gil' in Curb Your Enthusiasm (Ep. 103), my favorite episode.

I also didn't catch David Cross in the Cable Guy the first time around.

ShagMan 07-28-05 06:35 PM

I didn't recognize Bruce Spence in several movies...

Episode III
LOTR:ROTK
Matrix Revolutions
Dark City

Then later I learn about it and I'm like "woah, the dude from the Mad Max movies!"

RaraFemina 07-28-05 10:51 PM

I didn't realize that the prison guard in Cry Baby was Willem Dafoe until I rewatched it recently.

Groucho 07-28-05 10:54 PM

A lot of people don't recognize Will Ferrell in the first two Austin Powers movies, even if they've seen 'em several times.

Rypro 525 07-28-05 11:05 PM

also, bill paxton as the street punk with blue hair in terminator 1 "fuck you ass hole"

and as the asshole brother, Chet, in Weird Science.

rennervision 07-29-05 05:18 PM

When Dirty Harry's last movie The Dead Zone came to DVD, I noticed for the first time that the rock star lipsynching in the Welcome to the Jungle music video was none other than Jim Carrey.

Kind of ruins that whole scene now since you can't take it seriously, and it sort of hurts the movie a bit as well. Was Axel Rose unavailable?

He also had a small role in Commando. He was the guy on the Coast Guard ship telling Arnie and Rae they were in restricted air space and would be forced to land yada yada.

I remember when the movie came out and Guns & Roses was just hitting it big back then. They were asked about the actor playing the singer in the movie and one of them (Slash, I think) said "That guy was such a geek!"

(I actually like Jim Carrey's part in the movie - he's very obviously spoofing rock stars' typically cheesy histrionics when performing).

TheAllPurposeNothing 07-29-05 09:18 PM

Ethel in the "Its a Good Life" segment of Twilight Zone: the Movie was none other than Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson.

Pia Zadora was one of the martian kids in "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians."

Giantrobo 07-30-05 08:35 AM

Carlos..."I SPY"
Bill Lumbergh.."Office Space"

Same guy. I didn't realize it was Gary Cole playing Carlos until I saw the credits.

A Mr. Show post.

Many people didn't recognize Sam Jackson in Jurassic Park.

"Hang on to your butts!"

Giantrobo 07-30-05 03:57 PM

Nino Quincampoix..."Amelie" (Amelie's love interest)
The dancing mugger with the crazy hat..."The Fifth Element"

Same guy. Mathieu Kassovitz.

He also directed Gothika.

Actually Axel Rose (and the rest of the band) are standing in the background while Harry investigates the death of the rock star.

I've had that happen several times with Gary Cole. He's quite a good actor, and he also can do a decent job playing bad ass characters, such as one he played on an ep. of Karen Sisco and an upcoming TNT drama.

In terms of not recognizing them at the time, I didn't realize until after The Sopranos that James Gandolfini had appeared in many movies that I had seen, particularly Crimson Tide and True Romance.

lewzer76 07-31-05 02:32 AM

I just recently noticed that Jack Black played Sean Penn's younger brother in Dead Man Walking.

LasVegasMichael 08-06-05 02:24 PM

I just now realized that President Whitmore's (Bill Pullman's) daughter in Independence Day is the same girl that plays Ann Veal (Mae Whitman), AKA Egg, George Michael's girlfriend on Arrested Developement. Never would have guessed that one.

pdinosaur 08-06-05 02:56 PM

Well, I'll go with Jared Leto, specifically Fight Club and Panic Room.

It's only later on that I heard he has a fetish for self mutiliation in his films

Eplicon 08-06-05 08:15 PM

James Karen in Poltergeist. He looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn't pinpoint it. For years, until the movie came out, I had known him as the commercial pitchman for Pathmark Supermarkets. (He looks a lot friendlier when he wears those horn-rimmed glasses.)
