Re: The Descent (Dog Soldiers follow-up)
I can't remember. Maybe AICN? The person said that it was very formulaic, cliched and lacked any suspense that the first one did so well. I still want to see it for myself, but I really don't feel like this needed a sequel.

I hated this movie. If they had omitted the creatures entirely and just had the story focus on claustrophobia, maybe it would've worked. The sequence where a character gets stuck in a tight area is the only truly effective moment in the film.

Just saw The Descent
First off, fuck you search option. I know there's a thread dedicated to this film and I couldn't find you for the life me. Did multiple methods of searching and whatnot. No success.
OK. So..I just bought it and uh DAMN. That was a really good film. It was very very well made. I actually gave a damn about the characters. I wanted to know how the fuck they were going to get out and who was going to make it, if at all. I kinda knew who possibly could but that's ok. I didn't expect how they were "going to make it".
Loved the audio on this flick. And knowing how the sets were made I'd swear those were real caves but they're not...well most of it wasn't I believe. Anyway I can't stop praising it. It took some chances with the characters and specifically 2 of them were very well developed and I cared about their progression through their predicament.

As good as it is on home video, it's even better in a dark theater with a large screen. You feel almost like you're in there with the women. One advantage of the home video is you get both endings.
I really dug the movie. Very nicely done. I also loved "Dog Soldiers".... "Doomsday" not so much.

I can't imagine feeling the kind of claustrophobia the movie creates while I was in a cave and there was no easy way out. Even sitting at home in front of the computer imagining this, I get a little overwhelmed, and I'm not even claustrophobic.

Wow, in a cave? That would've been awesome.

I bet it was great in theaters. I regret holding off it for so long. I'm not a horror fan at all. Very few horror films are actually..you know..good. In fact...I can't say I've actually seen one in theaters.
Is it me but does it give off a kind of John Carpenter's THE THING vibe? I really felt that and I liked that as well. Also it's one of the rare films where I can have a group of women and not totally be annoyed w/ them. They were adults and all very different. Some better than others but good characters overall. So fucking rare to have a group of strongly developed women (again some more than others) in a horror film. I'm so fucking tired of standard horror female crap.

Re: Just saw The Descent
I remember getting the R2 like the week before it came out in theaters. I watched it like 4 times in the span of 3 days and then saw it opening night and it was ten times better seeing it in the theaters.
Still a fuckin' awesome movie.

I loved this film as well. Without question, it's one of the best horror films of the past ten year.
I'm also interested in checking out the sequel even though I've read it's not as good as the original.

I was already scared of caves.
The film was very good but not great. I still think it's a touch overrated.
To be fair, I've only seen it once during it's theatrical run...so i'll need to watch it again in the dead of night for a definitive take.

Re: Just saw The Descent
Ive tried watching it several times. Couldn't find anything scary about it. Didn't care for or what happened to the girls.. slow paced story, I keep hearing people say how good it is, but I just do see it

Re: Just saw The Descent
Both endings for The Descent leave it open for the sequel (or, more accurately the sequel opens in a way that works either way).
As I wrote in my review, the journey of Sarah is, I thought, really satisfyingly paid off in The Descent 2, but that doesn't necessarily mean the movie is that great.
If you rent it, watch the deleted scenes. There's two great bits edited out: an alternate opening with vocal cameos from all of the original girls, and a scene with Sarah and a cop in a tiny cave tunnel.

I loved The Descent...a very underrated horror movie.
As for the sequel, it wasn't need, but it was entertaining and had the same clausterphobic element to it. It did pick up right after the 1st part and there are 2 returning characters from the 1st film including Sarah. I think it did give a little more closure to Sarah's story.

Now, I know that DVDTalk has like 8 different search buttons spread all over the freaking place, and some of them are worthless. But the advanced search function with 'search titles only' works perfectly every time.
Searching for 'descent' found 37 threads with it in the title, including the main one previously linked as #4.
So I'm convinced that you, and others that complain about search, must somehow not know about this search page, which appears to be the main search button to me. Right there at the top of every thread in the bar with 'user cp' on the left and 'log out' on the right.
Same here, really enjoyed the the first two but absolutely hated doomsday.

Really? Underrated? How do you figure? Its extremely popular, people rave about it all the time, it even got good reviews when it came out considering its a genre film.
The OP is very late on board, not sure why it would take someone this long to watch the movie, but better late then never. Great film, remember seeing it opening weekend & it was one of my betterm movie experiences, audience was so into the film. Sequel is awful compared to the original but worth at least watching as it has some funny moments & avoids the use of CGI.

I never understand these complaints about searching, so I think you must be doing it wrong.
