Warned? I hate most, if not all those things and I loved this film. It had likeable characters. The story, while viewable a mile away, was still enjoyable. I did like the little spoofing that was done and Bruce Campbell was kicking rad.
The females were cute. Typical main male character not noticing how cute his female friend is till the end. But all that formulaic stuff really is overshadowed by how enjoyable the film is.
You can see the twist coming a mile away, but it's well worth the money I spent on seeing it.

And I now want to bang the goddess known as Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Wow. That pretty much sums up what I think of some of the negative reviews about this movie. Not that I mind the negative reviews, as I enjoyed the movie and not a solitary negative review will cause me to be shaken of my belief that I just came from a solidly good and enjoyable movie. But as for those reviews saying it's an episode of the Power Rangers, did they not notice the villian at the end was the only character that might remotely be considered a "Power Ranger?" And for the reviews blasting it for falling into high school cliches and being able to see the twists a mile away....well, I never got an impression they were trying to do otherwise. This wasn't supposed to be breaking any serious rules about school movies or be a Hitchcock mystery masterpiece. IT'S A DISNEY MOVIE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!! The fact that they had the so-called cliches from high school (which really aren't all that cliche, as there are clicks in every school in the country) only added to make these characters more interesting. Marvel Comics realized this long ago, that putting superheroes in normal situations makes you connect with the heroes better.
But negative reviews aside, if you want to focus on the bad (which I never even saw as bad aspects of the movie at all), then so be it. As a fun romp, a better superhero movie probably won't be found this year (note that I said as a FUN ROMP. That is not to compare it to other great superhero movies that may be more serious than fun romps!). I loved the sly humor in the movie, such as Layla calling Steve "The Commander" at the beginning and pointing to her face and he realized he forgot to put on his glasses, as if his glasses hid his identity from the world. Kind of funny stuff, and a good poke at Superman. And even towards the end when Lynda Carter said, "I'm not Wonder Woman, you know" this movie was full of great moments. Predicable moments, yes, but so what? The movie wasn't out to try to break any new ground as a movie about high school students nor was it going to make a convoluted plot that would lose it's target audience. Personally, I loved the idea of a school where kids with powers hang out together and that sinister idea was put into our heads that you never know what students may turn on you later as villians. And I just loved the fun we had getting to that point at the end. And is there anything wrong for liking a movie just because I had fun watching it? I wish more reviewers would consider that aspect of movie going instead of picking it apart as if it should be a Criterion candidate some day.

Personally, I think a blind man could see the film was aiming for no-frills entertainment. But does that make it a good movie? Should it get a free pass from honest criticism because it's good natured? I don't agree with that.
Again, I'm happy you got so much from SKY HIGH.

Sure, it was cheesy. Yes, you saw the twists from a mile away. It was good for what it was supposed to do, entertain the kids (and hopefully entertain the adults, which for me it did).
I wonder if the truly negative reviewers were looking at it from that aspect, or looking for the new superhero franchise. If you looked at it from that point of view, no you wouldn't like it.

Couldn't get into March of the Penguins so I saw this instead. I liked it a whole lot! The theater was close to full, but I have the feeling that it was spillover of people who couldn't get into Penguins as well. While it was cliched and predictable, it was great fun, and I will definitely get the DVD. The movie isn't doing great box-office now, but I guarantee DVD sales will push this one well into the black ink area.
A lot of people gripe that it's too much of another high school movie, but I thought that was its strength, and I loved that they used covers of 80s music as the soundtrack. In fact, there was a lot of stuff in the movie that you had to look for to catch, like wearing glasses being the way EVERYONE hid their true persona. Only one gripe
Aside from that, it was highly entertaining. Once again, I am amazed at how Lynda Carter has kept herself looking so good over all these years.

Saw the movie yesterday with my wife and son, fun movie to watch and we had a good time. We laughed alot (I grew up on Legion of Super Heroes, JL and the Super Heroe TV shows in the 70s-80s - so I understood must of the jokes) and enjoyed finding the underdogs winning at the end.
Super Heroes I found:
1. Superboy
2. Bouncing Boy
3. Spiderman with more than 2 arms
4. Elongegated man/Plastic Man
5. The Thing
6. Flash
7. The Torch
8. Ice Man
9. Triplicate Girl/Dou Damsel
10. Banshee
11. Dawnstar (She could fly faster and could track anything, but almost fits)
12. Posion Ivy
...if any can come up with more, I would love to see them posted.
I hope they do another movie with the School having more adventures saving the world.

Hope for the latter and not the former.
I think the DVD sales will do well provided they get it out in time for the Holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas). This has "pacify the kids while the adults talk during the holidays" written all over it.

Thanks. I actually wonder if someone put that on a DVD if it would boost its appeal.

I too took my son to see this movie over the weekend. My son is 5 And he LOVED IT! I may even venture to say he enjoyed it more then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I personally loved it also. i would love to see them do a sequal as well. When this movie gets released for DVD. i will be there opening day with my cash in hand.

Just saw this over the weekend and must say I liked it a lot. The worst I can say is the effects are somewhat uneven, IMHO. It appears they saved the best effects (for the most part) for when the kids were exhibiting powers. Dave Foley's riffs on Burt Ward's Robin poses were spot on.
Would definitely like to see a sequel, provided it's done at least to the same level.
Sky High: Graduation Day.
Although, come to think of it, what I'd really like to see in a funny superhero flick is for Warner Bros to do live action version of DC's Inferior Five from the '60s.

I saw it in Memphis, TN on Friday. The whole theater was empty except for me and my family so it was like our own screening room. Thoroughly enjoyed it as did my family.

I just saw this movie at the drive-in this past weekend (also saw the animated movie “Valient”). I was really surprised at how good Sky High was. To give you an idea of the type of humor, it reminded me of the movie “Galaxy Quest” and, to an extent, “Bring It On”.
So… if you liked the type of humor in Galaxy Quest / Bring It On, you’ll like this movie.
And Valient sucked. If you have young kids it might be worth a rental later, but otherwise I’d skip it.

Interesting. From IMDB's trivia:
Looks like there'll be a sequel.
According to actors who auditioned for various roles in the production, the main children's parts are to be contracted for not only a sequel but also a possible television series on the cable Disney Channel.

Just caught this on dvd and really enjoyed it. Yes it was very cliche, but very fun.
Danielle Panabaker - Nice! (although she was 17 at the time...)
Mary Elizabeth Winstead -
(now I need to see DH4 K=
)
Kelly Preston -
(I don't care if she's over 40; HOT!)
