Favorite Robert Deniro performance

I'm sure there's been a poll on it in the past, but I'm curious which Robert DeNiro role is considered his 'best'. Forgive me if I left out your choice, but the 10 choice poll limit was very restrictive.

It's tough to seperate his performance from the movies in terms of "favorite", but I've always had a soft spot for his performance in Ronin. He was a calm guy with a lot going on under the surface. Very low key.

Raging Bull, up there with Brando's Godfather as one of my favourite performances.

Since Rocky & Bullwinkle wasn't on the list I chose Heat. I love his character: the quiet, intelligent, collective criminal. I dug it when he went to the library to study up on steel cutting (?) before one of his heists.

Why no "other" option?

My pick, Noodles from Once Upon A Time In America.

I picked Heat, but Jack Walsh from Midnight Run should be on this list.

That would be mine, but of the ones listed, probably Jake LaMotta. He was great in Brazil, too.

No The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle?
No We're No Angels?
No Meet the Fockers?

I haven't seen all his movies, but of what I have, I like his performance in Jackie Brown, although Cape Fear is probably my favorite.

I have 27 De Niro movies on DVD, so I have seen most of his work. My favorite performances were Heat - Neil McCauley and Taxi Driver - Travis Bickle.

Raging Bull was probably De Niro's best performance though. He was so good that I forget it was him.

"Mean Streets"... he was totally raw and so real. if you go back and really watch his scenes, they are brilliant, simply brilliant!

"Midnight Run" is a good one too. Most people don't think of it, but it was sheer acting to make the character, "Jack Walsh" so genuine

Most definitely Travis Bickle. Neil McCauley in Heat was also a great role.

hmm, I agree with all of you. However, if you know of another actor who could pull off a performance like the one in 'Awakenings' - please inform. Brilliance personified.

The same goes for Pacino's awe-inspiring turn in 'Scent of a Woman' -- roles like that can only be perfected by a master.

I would narrow it down to Cape Fear and Heat. Can't choose between these 2.

I'll go with Jimmy Conway in 'Goodfellas'. He's pitch perfect in the supporting role.

All of the performances listed in the poll are fantastic IMHO.

As mentioned he is indeed incredible in both TKOC and 'Mean Streets' also.
