'M:I-3' on Cruise control
Paramount Pictures said Tuesday that it will begin principal photography on "Mission: Impossible 3," starring Tom Cruise, on July 18 in Italy. The announcement was made by Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey. In recent weeks, several press reports speculated that the film might not be given a green light even though casting was under way because of concerns over its budget as well as intense media coverage of Cruise's public romance with Katie Holmes, which some reports contended was damaging his standing as an A-list star.
So they kill Watchmen and push MI:3, hmmm....

'Watchmen' winds up in turnaround
Par's comic adaptation stalls out after Grey appointment

By DAVE MCNARY
Paramount has stopped watching over "The Watchmen." After two months of speculation, the studio pulled the plug on the action-adventure and put it into turnaround over the weekend. Producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin were taking the project, with British director Paul Greengrass ("The Bourne Supremacy") attached, out to other studios....

AP released this story, this is just part of it.
After more than a week of haggling over costs, Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures have reached a deal that will allow "Mission: Impossible 3" to move ahead with filming in Italy next month.
The film will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who joined the project last August, and will be produced by Cruise and his partner, Paula Wagner.
The deal fell into place after Cruise agreed to adjust his lucrative profit participation deal and shave a budget that had swelled to as much as $185 million, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The movie will feature Cruise and co-stars Ving Rhames, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Michelle Monaghan and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It is set for release on May 5, 2006.

Actually, MI1 was pretty solid except for the whole helicopter finale. It was a nice piece of FX work that still holds up well today but it was far too over-the-top just the same.
I hope J.J. Abrams makes it an ensemble film instead of a Tom Cruise movie. Use his name to advertise the film but don't make him the only character in the movie. That's exactly why MI2 sucked.

Given that Abrams has managed to make Alias and ensemble show despite the fact that Jennifer Garner is the still undoubtedly the star, I'm hoping he can do the same for MI3.

Oh come on. Within the few days we will see a ton of WoW trailers and the movie will rank a ton in. Fact is, Tom Cruise hype is at it's highest, even if it is for all the wrong reasons.

maybe a admin could fix the title of this to actually say mission impossible 3 or M.I. 3.
right now it looks like M 1 to 3

Good. Maybe they will make the movie the way it should be as an ensemble piece, not a Tom Cruise vehicle.
The show was about a group of agents foiling crimes, not Ethan Hunt doing it alone.
The only reason I would have seen it was because of Keri Russell.
