Ok, so which Spidey villain is a guy who isn't a former scientist turned-bad guy as a result of a failed experiment?

not a bad point. i think that's why there was never a bane/batman movie; while the fights might have been hella cool, any sort of psychological conflict would have been ... lacking.

well i guess this leaves rhino out of the picture.

but this could also serve as a combination of villains. instead of batman and bane, we have batman and bane and poison ivy.

It wasn't really a dramatic scene, though...although taken out of context in the "Oscar clip" it did play that way.

Ha ha. Nice title Jack.

I have no idea who it will be. I think that soon they will run out of good villain ideas. Think about the general public. Everyone knows who spiderman is and they also are familiar with Doc Oc and Green goblin but Hydroman?

That's like Stilt-man being DD's next villain.

Had they followed the comic book, it would have made it 1000 times more interesting. Bane was actually a pretty smart and ruthless villain, making Batman take on his entire rogue's gallery in the course of a few days only to step in and break him in two. Unfortunately, they just made him a super sized henchman in the B&R movie.

This is an interesting casting choice, but I like it.

By their wording, I'm expecting a NEW character to the Spiderman Universe.

If they go the 2 villian route in the next movie the could do Kraven and the Lizard. Kraven starts out hunting for the Lizard but spidey gets him first, so Kraven decides Spidey would be a formiddable prey.

i think if your going to do a two villain movie this is a good way to do it....since You already have a backstory for harry, and the persona of the Green Goblin...you can introduce a new charachter without having to cram two major backstories (see the batman sequels)...

Not sure how this will work, and I have been a little suprised that we didn't see spidey fight more baddies in the second movie. Not throughout the movie, but at the begining, or still shots in the newspapers...oh well...they did a good job with the first two, so I'll see it

What's the story behind Sandman?

BTW, there is no way Church could be Rhino, Kraven, or Morbius...

I don't think we'll see the Lizard in 3. The Curt Connnors in the films isn't a biochemist, which is how the Connors in the books is able to produce the formula that changes him. And the villain always becomes super-powered by his own doing. Unless, of course, he is a supergoon.

Spider-Man once defeated him with a vacuum cleaner, and he's been gunning for Spidey ever since.

Aw.. only Church from Sideways will star as a new villian in Spidey 3?

Why not bring in Paul Giamatti in too? That way Giamatti can play the wimpy guy who then turns into Scorpio played by Church.

My vote is on Mysterio but that's just who I want to see.

I believe Raimi said in the past that he will pick the best villian that supports Peter's journey, not just eye candy like Venom. So what do you think will be Peter's main agenda(s) in this movie? Protecting Mary Jane? Fixing his relationship with Harry? Dealing with public outcry and hatred as usual (JJ and son)? If you have played the S2 game I think Mysterio fits in perfectly with the public outcry part of the story.

Raimi was also quite fond of using the Cat in S2 but decided against cluttering the movie up. Wouldn't be surprised if she shows up this time as well to tempt Spidey.

Possible Spidey 3 villian spoilers

A friend sent me that link a few minutes ago. I doubt it's true, but there's nothing I love more than the internet rumor mill.

And if there's any justice in this world Rami will at least give Larry David a cameo as The Vulture in one of the films

If that is true, then that guy just lost his job. Sony really wants to keep the villians underwrap.

don't forget Mr. Freeze, batgirl, robin,

With so many villians, backstories, etc it clutters up the story line. I rather have the one main villian. I would be happy to have movies "drag" on for years and years as long as it is quality stuff

The New York Daily News spoke to Chloë Sevigny (Melinda and Melinda, American Psycho) who says she's trying to land a role in Spider-Man 3.

"I'd love to be in 'Spider-Man 3!'" Sevigny says. "There's a villain in it who's a blond, buxom girl, and I'm trying to get it!

She adds, "That [may] surprise people, since actors are always thought of as their last film or who they were. I think I'll always be drawn to films more difficult to watch, but I don't want to be a snobby cinephile."

Could we see Spidey facing Black Cat in the third film? It's not confirmed, but this is definitely interesting.

I hope to god this is not the case because then you will have Church, Harry/Goblin and MJ/Peter arc going. Toss in Man-wolf and venom and black cat and you have a total cluster fuck of a film. total Batman & Robin style.

Spidey Villain Goes "Sideways"

by Josh Grossberg
Mar 22, 2005, 2:40 PM PT

Spidey's new villain is going to Church: Thomas Haden Church.

The Oscar-nominated Sideways star has been tapped to play the webslinger's new archenemy in Spider-Man 3.

"In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," director Sam Raimi said in a statement Tuesday. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him."

Raimi was mum on exactly which villain Church will essay in Sony's next installment of the Marvel Comics-bases superhero saga.

Church was best known as wide-eyed mechanic Lowell Mather on NBC's Wings before scoring a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination for his role as a womanizing soap star on a wine-soaked road trip in Sideways. His big-screen credits include Tombstone, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Monkeybone and Spanglish, and he has signed on to voice a character in Paramount's upcoming CGI adaptation of Charlotte's Web.

When last we left our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire), he had saved M.J. (Kirsten Dunst) from the clutches of Doc Ock (Alfred Molina). Meanwhile, Peter Parker pal Harry Osborn (James Franco) had just stumbled upon father Norman (Willem Dafoe)'s secret lair and discovered daddy was the Green Goblin.

That opens the door for multiple villains in the next film, since Marvel fans know that in the comics, Harry follows in his father's nefarious footsteps and becomes the new Green Goblin. Raimi had initially toyed with, but ultimately discarded, the idea of having Spidey take on several baddies in Spider-Man 2. Now, not only do we have Church on board as an undisclosed nemesis and Harry finding out his dad's secret, but Raimi also foreshadowed the presence of another classic villain, the Lizard, by introducing the character of Dr. Curt Connors (Dylan Baker) in the sequel.

When news of Church's casting hit the Web Tuesday, Spidey fans began spinning the possibilities of which foe he might play.

Chief on the wish list is Venom, Spider-Man's alien alter ego who emerges when Parker's new experimental suit goes haywire.

Other hotly rumored rogues include: Sandman, Electro, Scorpion, Carnage and Hobgoblin. One thing the wallcrawler has yet to face is a female opponent, but that could change according to the New York Daily News.

Chloë Sevigny hinted to the newspaper that she's in the running for a villainous role in the third installment.

"I'd love to be in Spider-Man 3," the 30-year-old actress said. "There's a villain in it who's a blonde, buxom girl, and I'm trying to get it!"

All bets are on Black Cat, aka Felicia Hardy, a former burglar and martial arts expert who becomes a potential love interest for Parker.

Whichever bad guy (or gal) that he chooses, Raimi is predicting Spider-Man's definitely going to have his hands full in his next adventure.

"We wanted to have a villain not only who would fulfill the character needs but somebody who could entertain the audience on a visceral level and provide great visuals, something we haven't seen before, and create a real challenge and great foe for Spider-Man and his unique spidery, spider-like powers," the helmer told Now Playing magazine.

Spider-Man 3 will be swinging into theaters on May 4, 2007.

I think Chloe might be talking about playing Gwen Stacy. If she is a negative influence on Peter and MJ's relationship, I believe that would classify her as a villain, just not the customed, super-powered variety.

Of course, the Felicia Hardy rumors ran last time with what's her face spouting on TRL that she was gonna be the Black Cat and instead she was cheerleader #2.

Chloe isn't attractive enough to play either Gwen or Black Cat
