Actor/Actress with no idle nominations (never lost)

There are two that come to mind - Hillary Swank and Kevin Spacey, two actors/actresses who, when nominated for an Oscar, have not walked away empty handed.

Do these two hold the record? I don't believe there are others who received Acting nominations and won them every time.

HILLARY SWANK
*1999 - Boys Don't Cry (Best Actress)
*2004 - Million Dollar Baby (Best Actress)

KEVIN SPACEY
*1995 - The Usual Suspects (Best Supporting Actor)
*1999 - American Beauty (Best Actor)

Depends. If you count actors and actresses who have only been nominated once, there are a ton. For example, Sir James Foxx.

Luise Rainer was two for two in successive years on her best actress nominations.

1936 - Luise Rainer - The Great Ziegfeld
1937 - Luise Rainer - The Good Earth

No other nominations that I could see.

Also noticed Vivien Leigh

1939 - Vivien Leigh - Gone with the Wind
1951 - Vivien Leigh - A Streetcar Named Desire

Sally Field
1979 - Norma Rae
1984 - Places in the Heart

Helen Hayes won for her first nomination, but the second was Supporting Actress
1932 - The Sin of Madelon Claudet
1970 - Airport

From above, Sally Field, Vivien Leigh, Louise Rainer and Hilary Swank are the only 4 left to win 2 for 2 for Best Actress. Helen Hayes is 2 for 2 with one of each.

As for actors, Kevin Spacey is the only actor to go 2 for 2 for Best Actor.

Jason Robards
1976 - All the President's Men Best Supporting Actor
1977 - Julia Best Supporting Actor

Anthony Quinn
1952 - Viva Zapata! Best Supporting Actor
1956 - Lust for Life Best Supporting Actor

Walter Brennan
1936 - Come and Get It Best Supporting Actor
1938 - Kentucky Best Supporting Actor
1940 - The Westerner Best Supporting Actor

Jason Robards is the only actor to win back-to-back Supporting Actor but lost in 1980 for Melvin and Howard
Anthony Quinn won his first two for Supporting Actor but lost his next 2 Wild is the Wind and Zorba the Greek
Walter Brennan went 3 for 3 and is the only actor to win 3 Supporting Actor awards, but in 1941, he lost for Sergeant York

Jason Robards is disqualified because of his nomination for Melvin and Howard (1980), which he didn't win.

Anthony Quinn is also disqualified because of his nominations for Alexis Zorbas (1964) and Wild Is the Wind (1957)

It will be a hard road for Hillary Swank and Kevin Spacey (and Sally Field, for that matter, as she is not without redemption) if they should get another nomination. The pressure to keep their consectitive wins as opposed to walking away with just the nomination...yikes!

Walter Brennan, even though he has 1 loss is still the only actor to win his first three nomination.

Can Swank or Spacey tie his record?

Actually, Sir James kinda left one hanging when he let Morgan Freeman win Best Supporting Actor.

Yes, you're right. I'm an idiot. I'll choose another African-American as my example: Charlize Theron.
