Anything to do with the Hitchcock film of the same name?

don't forget "Go". Very underrated film, imo.

Very much agreed, and for anyone who hasn't seen it you can pick it up at Best Buy for about six bucks. Highly recommended.

Saw this trailer a few weeks ago and I turned to my wife and said, "That is either going to be very, very good or very, very bad."

I doubt Liman is going to be involved in a project that is completely brainless eye candy. Trailers are often so misleading and I suspect it is in this case as well. Hopefully this is True Lies with a little bit more of a brain but all the humor. That would make for a fun evening.

It seems like more and more films are being defended by saying "well, they are/they might be totally awesome turn-off-the-brain movies". I rarely hear someone refer to a film as saying, "This one looks intelligent, entertaining, and NOT like a typical piece of eye candy".

Is this a remake of the Hitchcock film? Either way, it looks pretty stupid, and normally spies/blowing stuff up good is favorite movie subgenre.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with defending the quality of a film by saying that it looks like dumb fun. I like all kinds of cinema, from Godard to Fellini and its horribly ignorrant to call someone ignorrant just because they might want to spend an hour and a half having some fun at the movies.

True Lies with a little bit more of a brain? I was just thinking today how action movies suck nowadays because James Cameron isn't making them. Did it look like there were any scenes of a harrier jet blowing up part of a bridge? Mr. and Mrs. Smith looks more like The Big Hit. Aside from Bad Boys 2 and Terminator 3 there aren't big action movies anymore.

Oh, and I didn't like The Bourne Identity so I can't engage in all the love for Doug Liman.

I'm suprised no one's answered this yet, so let me do so now: NO, this film is not in any way based on the Hitchcock film; they simply, and perhaps improbably, share the same title.

Whats wrong with watching a fun movie ? Its not good to watch serious movies that make you think all the time. Not like we're getting excited over something like White Chicks or Soul Plane !! *shudder* Lets not forget movies are meant to be a form of entertainment.

Link went dead.

Edit: Caught the preview through other sources, and it looks like a nice little action comedy. In fact, it looks kind of cute.
However, I think that audiences will feel that this is what caused Brad and Jennifer to break up and will probably shun it for reasons other than the movie itself.

Nope. I adored LOTR. But I like my action movies to BIG. Not to just have a few scenes of shoot-outs. I want cars flippin, buildings blowing up, the works! But alas they don't make 'em like they used to.

Just watched a screening of it.
cars flippin? yep
buildings blowing up? a couple
wild shootouts? you bet
the works? of course

***spoilers***

I'm not a big Doug Liman fan (only saw Bourne and I thought that was a bore.) but this movie was one great ride. The chemistry between Pitt and Jolie was phenomenal. They really acted like a real couple (could the rumors be true?). The pacing was close to perfect. Pitt was funny as hell, you could tell he had a blast shooting the film. Vaughn almost stole the movie. Best scene of the movie was the fight in the house. And no, I'm not a plant.

Didn't know Liman was involved. Honestly, I saw the trailer and the concept and didn't care for it. But youhave caused me to raise an eyebrow.

I think the movie will probably be solid, but I think the public perception that Brad left Jen for Jolie (though it's been said he didn't) will hurt the movie.

PopCornTree: from reading what you want in action movies, I would think you love movies by Michael Bay.

Wow. He did Bourne, Go, and Swingers!? Those are 3 of my favorite movies of the last decade. With a track record like that, this will be a must-see for me (although it already was since Angelina is in it ). Heck, I might actually go to the theater to see it.

You know, I would think that too, and if his films were shorter with less extraneous subplots and overediting and stuck with the kick ass action, I probably would like em more too.

As for the breakup hurting this film...kinda hard to say. I would think much of the major audience for a film like this (males, particularly young ones) could give a flying fuck about Brad Pitt's marital relations, so I think that won't be too much of an issue.

I heard on the radio this morning that the studio has cut the film including all the nudity (Jolie's, I assume?) to get a PG-13 to ensure big bank at the box office, since it has gone way over-budget. They also said the "unrated" cut will be coming to DVD. Why even bother with R-rated films anymore? Oh well, one less hacked film for me to see in the theater.

Yep, but now that I know it has been edited from it's original version, I'll wait for the DVD.

Not even any Jolie nudity? I admit that this movie looks like dogshit, but if it had some really nice sex scenes or nudity, I might have seen it.

Now the theatrical cut is even more useless.
