Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a bit of news that hit last night's Variety. Austin has a great vintage theater resting a stone's throw from the capital building on Congress Avenue... one of those old time movie palaces with the large balcony. Every summer they sweep out the plays and dance shows to run a classic film series. I went to see a double bill of GASLIGHT and KEY LARGO three or four years ago. I hadn't seen either I was really there to see KEY LARGO, a film I knew I need to see. I didn't even know what GASLIGHT was.
I was shocked when, after seeing and enjoying both movies, that I preferred GASLIGHT, a story starring the beautiful Ingrid Bergman as a woman whose husband, played by Charles Boyer, is trying to drive her insane. It's a beautifully shot film and even features a scary appearance by Angela Lansbury, who is young and hot, which is what made things scary for me. I could still see the Angela Lansbury I know... the wrinkly one... but she was still hot!
Now it seems that the honchos Warner Bros have decided to remake this classic... I can see their logic... it's a great story, a great concept, but a title that the mainstream doesn't know and even film fans might not be familiar with. I'd be really against this if they hadn't hired a really interesting director... Joe Wright directed last year's surprisingly good PRIDE & PREJUDICE and is attached to direct the GASLIGHT remake. He did a great job with PRIDE and I'm interested in seeing what he has in store for this story.

Somthing really ambitious: I'd like to see Wong Kar-Wai, Quentin Tarantino, Sidney Lumet, Richard Linklater, Gus Van Sant, Steven Spielberg, P.T. Anderson, Ang Lee, and John McTiernan all remake The Sweet Hereafter. There's a lot to mine in that film, and I think it'd be a set of 10 completely different, amazing films. My little film fantasy.

Well I personally would like to see a Resident Evil movie focused more on the horror, creepy aspect instead of the loud, action aspect. It doesn't have to follow the game exactly - but if they made something based off of it and truly tried to make it eerie and scary, that would kick so much more ass than WS Anderson's version.

If the world were perfect in my little dreamworld I'd have Peter Chung get together with Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and make an Aeon Flux movie the right way. I'd have them hire an actress who wouldn't refuse to wear Aeon's real outfit from the cartoon. Also, she'd have to be a little skinnier than Charlize Theron (no offense to her, she's one of my favorite actresses but she's not Aeon!). There would be no dialogue in the entire 2 hour movie (sounds risky, but have some guts, it could work with talented minds like these). And at the end of the movie Aeon Flux would die a terrible death. 
Maybe make it a trilogy. And the sequels would have nothing to do with the previous movies. And she'd die in all of them.

While it might wind up sucking, I am surprised nobody has tried to remake Deliverance yet. I have the feeling they would cast young hunks like Paul Walker and Hayden Christensen and focus upon the water rapids action over everything else.
