movies that deserve a remake?

some movies have huge potential. and fall flat on their faces.

there should be a good hulk or godzilla movie. and yet, recent offerings have been terrible (arguably)

what are some other movies that could have been so good, yet turned out so bad? (aside from matrix and star wars sequels. ;))

wendersfan 03-07-05 03:33 PM

I'd like to see a remake of Less Than Zero with less crappy 80s rock soundtrack and more faithfulness to the grittiness and depravity of the novel.

raven56706 03-07-05 03:41 PM

Battlefield earth...... just a movie explaining how dumb they were for making the other one

BigDan 03-07-05 03:43 PM

Burglar. Less Whoopi, more faithfulness to the source material.

riley_dude 03-07-05 04:22 PM

Two that come to mind are Millennium and Damnation Alley.

Mondo Kane 03-07-05 04:23 PM

Clash of the Titans
All I want to see is a CG/Mechanical Medusa.

ShagMan 03-07-05 04:33 PM

Battlefield Earth, but done as a miniseries (the only way to tell the whole story)... this seems like a prime canidate for the excellent miniseries that Sci-Fi has been churning out, ala Frank Herbert's Dune and Children of Dune

EDIT: now that I think about it, I think a perfect miniseries would be L Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth dekalogy, although it'd be hard to get that broadcast on TV and be faithful to the books at the same time, ouch.

Pulp Fiction, with hot young actors and a better soundtrack.

jaeufraser 03-07-05 04:44 PM

Maybe a shot for shot remake of Manos the Hand of Fate?

Geofferson 03-07-05 04:58 PM

I'd like to see a modern telling of Gaslight (either the original British version or the US re-make).

Dr. DVD 03-07-05 05:37 PM

Not a remake, but how about the five prequels to Leonard: Part 6? ;)

I would like to see Creature From the Black Lagoon done with some creature effects by either Rick Baker or Stan Winston. I would also enjoy a faithful version of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

While the originals will always be great, I think just about any of the old Ray Harryhausen movies could use a runaround with some modern day special effects work. I would really like to see some more realistic looking creatures.

Dollman vs Demonic Toys
Six String Samurai
Debbie does Dallas
Taboo
Transformers but live
Thundercats but live
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes but as a cartoon

JumpCutz 03-07-05 06:58 PM

'The Sting' with Viggo Mortenson and Crispin Glover.

'Night Flier' starring Ed Begley Jr. in the Miguel Ferrer role.

'Aguirre The Wrath of God' featuring Sean Penn as Don Lope de Aguirre.

'The French Connection' - Stiller and Owens

'The Fast and the Furious' -Deniro and Pacino

Purple Rain- Fiddy Cent and the G-Unit

DonnachaOne 03-07-05 07:47 PM

The Seven Samurai, in the time of the crusades, with Knights returning from the middle east to find Europe in disarray.

nazz 03-07-05 10:05 PM

The Last Man on Earth / The Omega Man

I understand they were going to do it with Arnold but it fell through. Someone needs to do it.

Squirrel God 03-07-05 10:13 PM

On the one hand, I would find it interesting to see what they could do with Le Trou. But on the other hand, the original is such an undated masterpiece, there's no way it could be any better.

Giantrobo 03-07-05 10:29 PM

Godzilla...hardcore(no cute shit or kids) with GOOD special fx

Constantine..I liked it but it needs to be remade pulling more from source material to shut the haters ther hell up.

Catwoman...again pulling more from the comic and less "adaptation". I would still keep Halle and I would add Batman but still focus on Catwoman.

Van Helsing.... less crappy CGI and a better story. Also, I would use THE Van Helsing and not his douchebag brother.

Mr. Salty 03-07-05 11:01 PM

I posted this in another thread:

"Plan 9 from Outer Space," remade as a straighforward sci-fi/zombie horror thriller. You can't do it as a spoof, because the original is already funny.

I Am Legend, as adapted by The Cell screenwriter Mark Protosevich

Squirrel God 03-07-05 11:07 PM

Hhhmm, how about Rocky adapted by Charlie Kaufman?

I second that. They could do a fun ED WOOD-style film on the making of that picture too. Such great stories!

.

A new one is being made but it will be man in suite vs the cgi godzilla. I doubt it will be a serious movie.

Fok 03-08-05 02:05 PM

Seven Samurai would be interesting, just don't hollywood it up too much.

Wages of Fear - Sorcerer was a good remake, but not quite up to the stories potential.

Tarzan of the Apes - A faithful adaption of one of the later books. The second half of Greystoke was horrible ... Andie MacDowell's voice being dubbed by Glenn Close ewwwww.

It Happened One Night - It is going to happen someday.
