Awful? Dude, didn't you see the trailer where the duck bit Diesel on the ear? Are you made of stone?

I find it funny that people are shocked that a Vin Diesel film was the #1 film this weekend. I'm guessing most don't remember that The Fast and the Furious made over $140 million at the box office (which was a complete shock to everyone at the time as it came out of nowhere) and xXx made a little bit over $100 million.

Then again, The Chronicles of Riddick had a nice opening weekend until it dropped over 65% into it's second weekend.

The Fast & the Furious appealed to young males cuz of the cars....it appealed to the girls cuz of Vind Diesel & Paul Walker.

I dunno, I still love watching The Fast & the Furious cuz of the rice rockets.

Yeah, i agree. Vin is a pretty decent draw, and if he is out of his element here, family films such as this have been pretty darn successful lately. Perhaps people simply were expecting to see Be Cool at the top of the list that adds to the shock.

Hard to believe that people supported this movie. It looks like Junk! I am losing more faith in the Human race every day!

These same people also supported Be Cool, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Constantine, Cursed, and Man of the House. So either way, most films usually in the top ten suck.

Vin Diesel, at the time, was not a draw for: Saving Private Ryan (that was a Hanks/Speilberg vehicle), The Iron Giant (an animated WB vehicle), Boiler Room (an indie film which heavily put promotion into the fact that Ben Affleck had a cameo), and Pitch Black (which USA Films released under the radar and became a sleeper hit).

Yeah, no doubt. Pitch Black kind of put him on the map though, and his stardom surely had something to do with the success that film had through the years. But as a star, Fast and the Furious is what really broke him, and the big numbers on xXx showed that he's not just some one hit wonder. He's not Arnold, and Riddick was no rousing success, but Pacifier puts him on the right direction. It's his Kindergarten Cop.

I think it's funny though with al lthis talk of Vin Diesel, Be Cool is getting ignored and considered somewhat of a flop. Funny thing being that it opened bigger then Get Shorty, and is in fact John Travolta's biggest opening weekend of his career, besting FaceOff from 1997. Granted, that's nothing too special, but considering its moderate budget I'd say the film will at least be moderately successful unless it sprouts some massive legs, but I don't see that happening.

I honestly don't believe that The Pacifier or Be Cool will have legs.

Robots is going to come out on Friday and simply slaughter everything else. Robots will take away a majority of the audience for The Pacifier and bad word of mouth will probably not let Be Cool pass $60 million at the domestic box office.

Well, Get Shorty only made like 72 million, so 60 million wouldn't be too bad. It'd be Travolta's biggest movie in some time.

While I don't disagree (even more painful when you see the film), there's another spoiler for BE COOL and PACIFIER this weekend: The new cut of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.

Who knows how well that will do...

I have no clue who will be coming out to see the "recut" of The Passion of the Christ. While I'm sure religious groups and attendees might be out in full force, the film is only on a handful of screens (500-600) and the film was a smash hit the first time due to all the publicity it received from the news media. This re-release is flying almost under the radar despite the few television spots here and there. It might make some money, but Robots will be the box office killer this weekend.

And then Robots will be murdered come March 18th when The Ring Two comes out.

Oh my god, people went to see a Vin Diesel movie, the world is coming to an end, what's wrong with people, holy shit, where's the tylenol???

Realize that some people go to the movie for some mindless entertainment. They don't go to find the next cinematic masterpiece, like some of us do. Nothing to have a heart attack over.

Maybe to the DVDTalk Movie Board, but there is a huge amount of press out there.

Call it a potential DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN situation around these parts.

I saw a lot more press on Diary of a Mad Black Woman than I have with the "recut" of The Passion. I at least saw television ads for Diary on the networks whereas the only channels I have seen ads for the "recut" are mostly the news channels (e.g. Fox News).

Other than some news media stories and this forum, the "recut" is going under most moviegoer's radar. The film was such a hit the first time is because that everyone had an interest in seeing it due to all the publicity the film was getting. You couldn't read or watch something without hearing Gibson or the film being mentioned. The interest has peeked and now has gone. People saw the flick in theaters, and they bought the DVDs. This only people interested in this "recut" are hardcore church goers and members of church groups.

I have a huge feeling that this will be the first and one of the last time the film is re-released. Now I don't have anything against the film (however, I have much against the studio that is releasing it), but re-releases in current day society, don't do well period. Unless you can get the viewer in by offering "new special effects" (Star Wars and The Exorcist), most people will just shrug it off and watch the film at home.

Then again, I'd love to eat my words and have this recut end up #2 at the boxoffice.

Chalk one up for Matthew. *applauds*

A $74 per screen average on Friday alone for PASSION... Yeowch!

With all the Christian stations working themselves into a lather again, I thought it would do a lot better than that.
