Microserfs by Douglas Coupland, though I hope it doesn't happen anytime soon, because I'd love it if a decade down the road I was in a position to make it myself.

A few of his novels could be made into decent movies. His newest, Elenor Rigby, would be really good, IMO.

Any of the western novels by Elmer Kelton would make a good 90-100 movie.
Also the western novels by Elmore Leonard would be good theatre. I think "Hombre" with Paul Newman was the only on the Big Screen.

Need more Westerns, Darn It!!!

When they made The Lord of the Rings movies, I started to hope that they would make Dragonlance eventually.

They probably do still put out books, but I only read the earlier ones.

James Ellroy's American Tabloid and its sequel The Cold Six Thousand would make a kickass mini-series on HBO.

I didn't see it, nor did I even know it existed until I did a search on the IMDB one day for Wilbur Smith.
However, the presence of Jeff Fahey answers your question.

All CGI, Final Fantasy style. The only way to go. Anything else would be a disappointment. If they went live action, it would take forever to cover 7 novels, limiting acting choices.

I wish Hollywood would start over on the Alex Cross series by James Patterson. They royally fucked up that series for the big screen. Morgan Freeman is a great actor, but Alex Cross he is not.

I always thought Frank Miller's The Man Without Fear was very cinematic. Abel Ferrara and Frank Miller could make this work if the could find an actor who could do the role justice.

A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, although I don't think any cinematic interpretation could translate the novel's charms.

why? i'll admit, i was tempted to say there are a 1000 better books that need film treatment than dragonlance. but i opted out of that because someone might demand i produce the list.

so why? not to sound too harsh, but i'd say dragonlance is like a fanboy's version of trashy romance novels.

i'm not sure i've really seen much out of the fantasy genre that is remarkably innovative or new. which is ironic, given the genre.

i'll admit, part of me should feel a little ashamed for trashing this idea because it's the same fanbase that merited the dungeons and dragons movie. but then i remember that d&D movie. and we all know how narrowly it missed a Best Picture nom.

Anyway, going back to Dragonlance, it would be really cool if they started with The Legend of Huma. Though not the beginning of Chronicles or Tales, it did "happen" before both, and it is a full story in itself.

tolkein is doing backflips in his grave for that comparison. dragonlance should consider itself lucky to be in the same genre as lord of the rings.

why should dragonlance be made? why out of the entire fantasy/science fiction section at your local borders are you picking something that even borders doesn't take very seriously? i mean, i'm not even sure these books would be bought had they not a dungeons and dragons affiliation.

with most other books here, i don't need an explanation. but this, i do.

I completely agree.

Martin needs to hurry up and finish A Feast For Crows already...
